Vintage Aqua Velva

Wow I love Aqua Velva Ice Blue, it's my favorite after shave. It's cool to see these old vintage bottles. Do you know how old this bottle is? Would love to know haha.

This particular version predates Aqua Velva Ice Blue. Which makes it pre 1935 (basenotes indicates Ice Blue came out in 1935).

I just noticed the label says it contains 50% alcohol, which gives some substance to the claim that solders drank their aftershave, leading to a bittering agent being added to discourage consumption.

I don't know what this yellow version smelled like, but I can't imagine wanting to get drunk so badly, that I would willing ingest Aqua Velva Ice Blue.

Maybe you could empty the pee colored liquid and put a coat or two of polyurethane over it and fill that up with some modern blue juice and be the envy of us all.

Ahhh.....those were the days......when aftershave was half moonshine and Williams soap actually produced a rich thick lather.

Nice find you got yourself there. :thumbup1:

So I got the time to do some research and went to the ads. I think this is actually 1940-1947 Aqua Velva and I back that up by looking at this page:

Vintage Ad Browser

The cap and label look like the 1940's version and the 1947 version is a dead ringer. If you read the 40s ads they state that 'electric shavers use before and after' and sure enough:

If it weren't for ads, we would have little to go on.

I would have thought the Yellow was discontinued with the introduction of Ice Blue, but I guess I am wrong.:laugh:
