Vetiver?

I love vetiver. I am interested in finding the strongest smelling best vetiver shaving soap or cream I can get my hands on. I'm not interested in Creed's, by the way, as I can't justify such a price for soap.

So, it appears my options are limited to only Salter's vetiver. I'd like to get a soap as well, so is there any vetiver dominated shaving soap available that isn't Creed's? I think I read somewhere that QED's Tobacco scent was basically the new vetiver in his lineup, is this true? Please point me in the right direction.

Charismata had a nice strong smelling vetiver soap that was tallow-based. Not sure if it is still offered.

QED does indeed make a vetiver soap and it is strong. The qed tobacco is very reminiscent of vetiver.
Al Raz, the Bomb can whip a nice vetiver cream for you.I got a vetiver/cedar wood that is heavenly

Well, definitely get the C.R. Salter's French Vetiver shave cream. That's a no brainer for any vetiver fan.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on a good vetiver soap as I haven't tried any, but have heard great things about QED's "Vetiver" and "Tobacco" soaps.

Let us know how you fair with this. It's of interest to me because I'm a big vetiver fan!

Okay gents, time for the round up. It looks like Salter's cream is the clear winner here. Sounds good to me! Seems like a tremendous value and a good price as well so I'll be ordering this next Friday. It also looks like I'll be ordering QED's Tobacco soap as well, considering everything I'm reading seems to say it's the same as the old Vetiver anyway.

Rudy the Charismata is an unique suggestion. I see it gets mixed reviews. How did you get on with the product?

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Provence Sante's Verlaine at least partially a vetiver soap? If so, you could hardly go wrong with PS.

Addendum: upon review... no, it isn't. Oh, well they still make good products.

I know Provence Sante makes a nice triple milled vetiver soap for regular use (not a shaving soap). It comes as a 2-3 inch round. The soap is fantastic, the scent a nice green, non-smokey vetiver. Might as well start off with vetiver in the shower.

Not what you're looking for, but here's an idea. Pick out an unscented or mildly scented soap that you really like. MWF would be a good choice. Before you load your brush sprinkle a little Royale Vetiver on the top and see if it stirs up a vetiver lather. I'll try this tomorrow an see what happens.

Along those lines, you could also get KMF unscented shave cream and add some vetiver EO to the mix. I've done this with a number of essential oils and it works great.

So I gave this a shot this morning. The scent was very apparent, but not overwhelming. The scent was still there in the lather for my second pass. The best part, I got a great shave from MWF!

If you want to do that with something a little less expensive Shave A Buck just started carrying some inexpensive vetiver AS.

Okay so just to update everyone, I did in fact end up going with Cyril R. Salter's French Vetiver cream. I've only used it a couple of times, but in order to keep my AD's in check I will only use this cream until it is done (which will take probably 4-6 months.)

Anyway Salter's Vetiver is not for the faint of heart. You must absolutely love vetiver to really enjoy this cream. For me, it was love at first sniff, but for many others, I would tell you to try a sample first! It is straight vetiver as far as I can tell. Not the green, softer version as in Musgo Real (which I absolutely love as well.) Smokey, earthy, dirty, celery, and pungent! I don't mean any of that in a bad way, either.

The lather is nice and slick, thick, and isn't exactly moisturizing but not drying either. All in all this was an excellent purchase. Thank you gentleman!
