Very Pleasurable Shave!

So I have been wet shaving with various cartridge razors all my shaving life. Save for a recent 2-3 year stint with electrics. Point being no matter the razor, I always used a mug/brush as my dad did. The reason for the electric stint was I have never been able to comfortably shave 2 days in a row with a blade. That has now changed with a good DE razor, and I am enjoying a wonderful shave every day and my skin is better as a bonus.

Long lead in for a brush post! My brushes back in the day were boar, never owned a badger until recently. I love the badger, and have now delved into brush restoration. I just finished 2 for my son for Christmas with A grade silvertips from Tony (pics later). In the process of buying old brushes on the 'bay, one I received was a Fuller. It was a lovely butterscotch and black with boar bristles. My intent was to re-knot it with a nice badger, but this brush had never been used....still in the box! I decided that the bristles were too nice to cut out, so today I used it.

This brings me to the point of this long-winded post. Not only did it preform wonderfully with Mama Bears Awakenings, but it somehow felt very fulfilling using an old brush with the original knot. Have any of you experienced this? I enjoy a good shave as do all of you. But something just felt satisfying about using this old brush....am I crazy?

I haven't used an old brush myself, but I did have my eye on a black and butterscotch Fuller, very nice looking brush. There is definitely something satisfying about using vintage razors, and I would imagine that would be quite similar with a brush.

Have not used an old one, but congrats on the nice shave. Looks like you just added a new tool to your arsenal.

I acquired a NOS EverReady 750 'Pure Badger'. It's a wonderful old brush, feels like a silvertip, and I really enjoy it.

NOS brushes pop up from time to time on eBay.

I was given an old EvereReady brush that hadn't been used and its a lovely little brush to use.
It needed a few washes initially to clean it up and get rid of the musty smell but now its full and clean and lathers up really well.

you do realize that none of this happened until you post the pictures :001_smile

Ok guys....I know my photo isn't the best, but here is the NOS Fuller butterscotch bottom I picked up off of the 'bay. Like I posted earlier, I intended to cut the boars out and put in the badger, but it was just too nice to do that to it. After using it twice so far, I have to say I love the boar bristles in this brush! The tips are not scritchy/scratchy...more scrubby but soft. And a nice springy backbone to it....really enjoyable! Plus, I just love the thought of these bristles being set so long ago, and me being the first to use them!

Let me know what you think.
