Vegas recommendations needed

I will spending a few days in Vegas in May. I have dinner reservations at Sensi and I know I want to go back to Mon Ami Gabi for breakfast and hit Tacos el Gordo for lunch, but I will be there for 3 days. I need more ideas. I was thinking CarneVino, but it is very expensive and not all the reviews were great. I have been to Fleur de Lys and Rick Moonen's place (might go back to one as I have Santana tickets). I have also eaten at Jasmin and done the buffet at Wynn. I am only packing casual shirts (no tees) and chinos and do not want to go anyplace where that is not good enough. I also prefer to avoid having to take a taxi so I'd rather stay on the strip.

There's an italian place called Piero's right next to the convention center, which is a few blocks off of the strip. Depending on what you're after, it can be a little pricey, but it's very good. Zagat's gave it 23/30. I'm pretty sure we stumbled into the place in t-shirts and shorts, and despite standing out, no one ever said anything to us about it.

Here are 3 of my favorite places to eat at in Vegas

Hash House a go go is a must try for breakfast.

Battista hole in the wall for Italian. Not a real fancy or spendy place, but I like their food and you get a carafe of wine free with dinner too.

Lowrey's steak house.

The wife and I went to Vegas and the Grand Canyon for our honeymoon last year (and had an Elvis ceremony at the Graceland Wedding Chapel to fulfill my dream wedding fantasy). I would highly recommend trying the Wicked Spoon buffet at the Cosmopolitan hotel. It was very good, with a large selection of high end items.

And, honestly, for a good and reasonably priced lunch, I would recommend the Earl of Sandwich (in Planet Hollywood, I think).

One of the better buffet deals is the bellagio buffet during lunch hours. Go mid afternoon (before 4 I think) for a great price and your food hangover will be gone once later on when you really want to hit the town.

I know you said you wanted to avoid taking a taxi anywhere, but a very short cab ride from the strip is an excellent place called "Firefly Tapas Kitchen and Bar". I went there last May. Great food, diverse menu, great service and quite affordable.

+1 on Battista's. Great food. The table wine is like swill if drank alone, but matches perfectly with their food. Very casual and some of the best Italian I've ever had.

Alan Alberts has the best Prime Rib in the history of mankind, but I guess they closed a couple of years ago. I need to get back to Vegas...

The Wicked Spoon was on my original list, but a couple of negative reviews had me taking it off. But if you are on this board I assume you are a man of taste, so it is now back on.

I've only been to Vegas once. We had one dinner at a place up on the north end of the strip. I forget its name, but it was a steakhouse. Old school. Dimly lit, almost dark in fact. Wish I could remember the name. Great steak; one of the best I've had anywhere. As I recall, the price was fairly reasonable. I will see if I can google up the name. I would not recommend the Wynn Buffet though. We ate there, and I was completely disappointed. Buffets are not my first choice (well, I avoid them altogether), but it was a group thing. Lots of variety, but the quality was mediocre to poor.

+3 for Battista's, great atmosphere, huge portions though .. up on the northern end is an old joint called "The Golden Steer", very old school, red leather(vinyl?) booths with pictures of the Rat Pack days .. best I had there though was at a Brazillian type place just east down off Flamingo. I wonder if Vegas has more restaurant turnover to attract the tourists, or stays the same as much of the clientele is there infrequently?

Another vote for the buffet at the Cosmopolitan (second to none imo). However, the best kept secret currently in Vegas (please don't laugh but trust me on this one)... The STEAKHOUSE at the circus circus.

Not laughing, it has been well regarded on the strip for as long as I can remember.

I usually get frowns and laughs when I recommend that because its hard to believe that one of the best steakhouse in Vegas' happens to be in one of the biggest dumps.... my opinion ofcourse.

I have been to Vegas about 6 different times but gourmet food was not on my list of things I was looking for while there. The Prime Rib place at Excalibur (Sir Galahad's?) was very good for a reasonable price. I had very good meals at the coffee shops at most of the resort hotels. I recommend the one just off the casino at the 4 Queens downtown.
