VDH Luxury Soap difference?

Saw that VDH came out with a Luxury Soap (Scented and Unscented).

How are they different from their main line soaps such as Deluxe, Glycerin and Select?

Also are they glycerin based and do they cost more?

Thanks,

I've only used the Luxury and Deluxe, so that's the only comparison I can make. Deluxe is smaller (2.5 oz vs. 3.5 for Luxury) and cheaper ($1.59 for Deluxe at most Wal-Marts vs $3.99 for Luxury at many Targets). I much prefer the Luxury soap. It creates a very dense lather effortlessly, and my skin feels better after shaving with it than many of my soaps that cost 3-5x as much. I also like the scent quite a bit. Oh, and they both have glycerin.

I use the Deluxe from Walmart, I add a couple drops of gliceryn, very rich and dense lather for sure. A great deal and a must in any shave den

VDH Glycerin contains 40% moisturizers, Vitamin E & Oat extract; VDH Deluxe contains 40% moisturizers, Aloe Vera and Shea Butter; VDH Luxury contains 10% Glycerin, Shea, Mango and Cocoa Butters. The Glycerin $& Deluxe are ~$1.50-$2.00 @ 2.5oz, VDH Luxury ~$3.00-$4.00 @3.5oz.

VDH Luxury is supposed to have more of the good stuff (moisturizers) than the rest of the line. I have used at least one puck of it, and it is most certainly superior to the standard VDH Deluxe. It also smells better than VDH Deluxe.

Can you describe the scent?

Also beside the scent is the Luxury Unscented basically the same?

Can you describe the scent?

If you're familiar with the C. O. Bigelow Barber Elixir colognes sold in B&BW, it's very close to the now-discontinued Elixir Red cologne. VERY close indeed!

On an Ebay sale, that cologne is described thusly: "Elixir Red blends lush spices, sandalwood and redcurrant notes with velvet fig leaves." The single review of it over at Basenotes says "Elixir Red is an utterly pleasant spicy fruit creation that feels and smells warm as it rises from the body. The spices, probably pepper and cardamom, work with the fig and redcurrant (which are quite evident) to create a sharp opening that pushes just hard enough to be interesting and stops just before it reaches annoying."

Also beside the scent is the Luxury Unscented basically the same?

I've got both, and besides the lack of scent, the only other difference that I notice is that the unscented is semi-transparent (like a bar of glycerin bath soap) instead of opaque.

I love VDH Luxury! I think it's easily the best mass-produced shaving soap I've used, and better than many that cost much more. I've found that one must build up the lather in the brush, kind of like what I read about MWF soap. But you can create a luxurious lather that lubricates extremely well. The scent to me is a faint floral scent, and I mean faint.

I think I may want to give this soap a try. In another thread I was playing around with mixing Williams and VDH but after reading your post and others I may just go with the VDH Luxury.

Huge fan of the VDH luxury as well. I've used the deluxe, it's not bad, but the Luxury is a lot better. Considering that it's not that much more, it's worth the investment. Go to Amazon, I remember seeing a three pack on sale.

Oh, and it makes a great "uber-lather" when I put a drop of C&O Bigelow on it.

I am a fan of both I got 12 Deluxe pucks last year off Amazon and 3 of the Luxury Pucks I have used one of the Luxury pucks up and it was great. VHD along with Arko are stables in my shave den.

Picked up some VDH Luxury Scented soap today at Walgreens. You guys are right, I'm smelling a cucumber scent to it however it is not over powering. Plus if it was overpowering you could mix it with a puck of the Unscented.
