VDH better than Mama Bear's, really? (part 2)

First off I would like to say thank you to all who responded to my thread. Unfortunately i have to say that I have tried what most people have said, mainly using less water in the boar brush and my results have not improved. What ends up happening is that I get a really really good lather, peaks and everything for the first pass. Then when I go to lather for a second pass, and while it appears that I still have plenty of lather in the brush, when I start lathering, the lather just plain stinks, it's thin and disappears. I've tried different amounts of water, anywhere from the brush basically being dry all the way to not shaking any water out of the brush and I seem to get the same result: a really good cushiony slick lather for the first pass, and poor results for the following passes. I really enjoy face lathering and would not like to have to start to use a bowl, I just can't understand why, using VDH with the same technique I can get enough lather for three passes.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

I had the same problem with my first use of a stick. I kind of assumed that I did not have enough soap to start with so I reapplied the stick and lathered up again. Maybe I don't know what I am talking about but it sounds like maybe you are not getting enough soap loaded. Did you try softening the soap with a little water on top like the others suggested?

I just got in my first 3 tubs of Mama Bear's so I cannot answer to their lathering performance yet. However, the scents are awesome!

Yeah, I agree, you arent loading enough soap, VDH is a very soft soap, so you get lots of it with little work, Mama Bears might be a bit harder.

but it's a different soap so it does take a different technique.

Which one of my soap are you using??

Bear Hugs, Sue

It might not be the soap.

Is the boar brush new? I've had the same thing happen with a new boar brush and Tabac soap. Once the boar brush is broken in is should work better. A badger brush worked perfectly on the same puck of Tabac.

Notice how the Merchant appears with genuine concern for the customer while making no presumptions?

Makes ya wanna go buy a Rosemary mint just to say hi, doesn't it?

I've been using either Lime EO or just unscented, and my brush isn't new, I don't think it is that I'm not getting enough soap on the brush as I've loaded it for up to a minute, I've read all the soap instructions B&B as well.

Is there a mini lather forming in the tub? Are you sure you're soaking the soap for a few seconds at least? Which boar brush are you using?

I'm using a Shavemac D01 (silvertip badger) and can make a gob of lather with Mama Bear's. With a boar, you should be able to make more. How is you lathering technique?

Dragon's Blood !!! (please don't discontinue:frown:)

Now you see why I have so many fragrances.. lol

and I am NOT discontinuing Dragon's Blood.. just trying to warn people away from it.. it is the most irritating one I carry I think.. it just smells so GOOD.. sigh. I would be lynched if I actually discontinued it I think.. :blushing:

Scotto's tutorials are AWESOME! Especially part 2 if I remember correctly... this is probably the best resource on the internet for that subject, he did a wonderful job with that.

There's no crime in hitting the puck again between passes.

Whatever works and whatever you need to do is the right thing to do.
