Van der Hagen Soap

I am traveling and packed everything I needed except soap or cream. I picked up a puck of Van der Hagen and was pretty impressed with the quality of the lather and the way my face felt when I was done shaving.

I do not think it is going to be my favorite, but for about $2, it is not bad at all!!

I picked up a puck after reading a few posts on here to give it a try. It was a pleasant surprise to find how slick it was for the price.:thumbup1:

yea, Williams, VDH, Surrey, the tops in soaps eh? Comparing them to say Harris or Castle Forbes is Like comparing a Yugo to a BMW.

I'd never trade my TOBS for it, and I'm not very fond of Williams, but VDH is quite the bang for the buck

No, VDH is not the fanciest thing on the market however, I don't remember when I didn't have at least a couple pucks on hand. More times than not, deluxe or glycerin are my soaps of choice. It stretches out the service life of my fancier soaps and when I do whip out the boutique stuff it's really kind of a treat. I myself prefer glycerin to deluxe but either is a very reliable soap. The quality FAR exceeds the price for sure.

I just picked up a puck to try out today. I can't wait to try it! I have been using creams, not soaps. Another first!

It's definitely a good value, that's for sure. I also feel that it's much better than Williams for the money. It's only a buck or so more than the Williams around here. Maybe one day I'll try Williams again. The last time I tried it, I gave up on it because it kept drying up on my face. Then again, I tried it back when I was a newbie.

+1 I agree and will probably revisit Williams again to see if I can make it work as well.

VDH has been my main everyday soap since I started DE shaving and I've really found it to be solid. I have some e shave cream that I use on the weekends, but daily VDH has been doing the trick and has been really helpful for keeping my routine consistent while trying out the sampler pack of blades. I was pleasantly surprised by it after picking it up at Walgreens on a whim.

I use nothing but VDH deluxe. It's cheap and it gives fantastic results. The scent even grows on you over time .

Of course I've never been able to successfully use a fancier soap. Every time I tried my face felt like it had been covered in some horribly corrosive substance. I guess I could get a fancy unscented soap, but what is the point:rolleyes:.

Even the "low scent" MWF burned .
