Using Up Product

I started wet shaving less than a year ago and I was quickly hit with all sorts of xAD. I quickly accumulated more brushes, razor and product than I knew what to do with. I'm now down to 4 razors, 3 brushes and a whole lot of software. I haven't counted lately, but I imagine I have about 18-20 soaps/creams at the moment and maybe 8 after shaves plus any number of balms, colognes and blades. Candidly, it's overwhelming.

Lately, I take joy in finishing a product. I don't care what it is -- a tub of cream, a bottle of balm, etc. -- I don't get upset when I finish a product I am relieved. I find that when I'm close to the end of a product, I rush to use it up as quickly as possible so that I can throw the container out and clear a bit of space. I have two different ASBs that I should be finishing up in within the next couple weeks and I am overjoyed.

Does anyone else really enjoy finishing a product or is it just me?

I'm 2 1/2 years in and I feel the same. It's why I'm using a single soap to completion now. Man do I have a lot of good stuff (and a few questionable pucks) to get through!

I like using a product to completion as well. Best way to do this, is pick a product, and use it contiguously until it is done.

I must be a minimalist at heart, as I find having years of product on hand really bothersome (although like the O.P. I too have probably close to 18 products on hand). So I get great joy from seeing a product get used up!!

So...using up products eases your AD guilt? I'm not even about to use up a 5-pack of razors; so I can't relate to anything positive happening when I toss an empty container into the trash.

My biggest accumulation of things is razors and, short of mechanical breakage, I won't be using them up.

I use soaps exclusively, and using one up is, indeed, a rarity. They seem to last forever.

Yesterday i went through my stuff and tossed out samples I haven't used in months and all my unscented soaps (since I only use the scented ones, anyway).

I was left with a much more manageable collection of soaps. Still enough to go a few years, probably, but it looks better and it made me feel better.

Yes! Same here. I feel like I have a list of things I want to try, but with 10 soaps already in my den, I can't justify buying something else I don't have room for.

The only problem I find is that for every product I use to completion, it seems to have been replaced with ten others.

Check out The Graveyard! The OP of that thread gives a pretty clear explanation of what it is for, but basically it's the celebration of finished products.

I wouldn't say that I get particularly excited about using up products, but I'm at a phase when I am focussing on finding out how fast I consume different products. To that end I am using each product currently on hand from start to finish.

I'm thinking of starting a event/celebration that I am calling Use-Up-A-Thon (it's terrible, I know). The idea is simple, devote a month to using up as many products in your den as possible. Waste is not encouraged, but if you're a little more generous with product go for it.

i have two balms and jar or ToBS Jermyn cream that I can probably finish off in the next 2-3 weeks if I give them some love and attention.

Finishing a product? You mean you have to finish something before you can buy another?

LMAO! Nah....so many products....so little time!!!

Honestly, I have two favorite creams, and two soaps that I use to make a superlather....All four products are always being used/rotated. I repurchase when I run out....

I get what you're saying but can't say I feel the same. I usually buy at-least 3 more of a product I've barely used thrice if I even remotely like it. How can you finish something that'll never end?

I enjoy finishing it so much that I give away samples in small containers JUST TO USE UP THE SOAP!

Recipients have included the mailman, people in line at Starbucks, someone waiting for the bus, the clerk at 7-11 and any panhandler with his cup out. All the while I’m thinking please take the sample, I’ve got to use it up or I’m going to go CRAZY.
