Using EO's to add scent to shaving cream

Has anybody tried this? I have a jar of unscented AOS shave cream and was thinking about adding some patchouli EO to it to make a patchouli shave cream. Has anybody done this before?

I don't quite know how well the cream will absorb the EO. I'm not sure if just dropping some drops of the oil around the cream and stirring it would be enough? I figure if I do that and let it sit for a week or so it should kind of spread throughout the cream.

Has anybody added in additional EO to a shaving cream to make a custom or stronger scented version of a favorite? I've heard someone suggest adding additional lavender EO to the Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Cream if you wanted a stronger scent.

This is another trial and error thing. I would be interested in knowing how it turns out. The only Patchouli shaving item I have is Will G's soap. It would be nice to make my own!

yeah, that's what I'm thinking. someone suggested just putting a drop of EO onto the cream in the bowl. That seems like a good idea. You would not end up wasting the cream if you didn't like it and you could use lots of different EO's. Just buy some unscented shaving cream and a bunch of EO's and have any type of scent you want.

Also, I have some Surrey Deluxe shave soap and plan on melting it down and adding in some EO to that to make a custom-scented soap. I'll also put in some extra glycerine and a dash of jojoba.

My sister-in-law has been experimenting with making her own EO-scented products for months, and may well have gotten to her shaving cream samples by now (though my brother, her husband, is lamentably an electric user, so perhaps not :blushing:).

I'll check with her and see whether she's found any techniques worth sharing.

AOS is actually doing in store promos where the owner of the company mixes "custom" creams using EO's and the unscented AOS cream.

I added about 15 drops of 3 different EO's to my T&H Ultimate Shaving cream a couple of weeks ago. It turned out "ok." Meaning that, the cream absorbed it fine (I used a plastic knife to mix it with). I was actually a little underwhelmed by the amount of scent it created. I thought I was putting in way too much, but the scent is a very subtle "Nancy Boy-esque" scent.

I used 15 drops of Lavender, 20 drops of Peppermint and 10 drops of Cedar.

Very interesting (and nice) scent to my taste...

Howard,
It sounds good to me! I have a feeling the Peppermint overpowered the Lavender and (potentially) the Cedar too!

Actually NOT... I figured the same thing, so I added less peppermint in the beginning, then just kept adding and ADDING. I could still add more and be OK.

The cedar was the one to watch... A true "sleeper" of an EO!

I wanted "Douglas Fir" but it was too damned expensive. :frown:

Was Douglas unwilling to part with his fur? Scalp the SOB and have done with it!
