Using Brylcreem?

So, do you put it in, rinse your hair each day, add a little more and then wash it out? I wash my hair like once a week, so I assume you just keep this stuff in? I usually use Groom and Clean which rinses out so it's no issue, but I just wonder how this stuff should be used in this regard as I do not wash my hair often.

Not to upset the traditionalists, but Brylcreem was just nasty. Yes it did its' job in making my hair manageable and gave it a little shine. However, it would not wash out with a rinse. This resulted in some nasty pillow cases over time. Switch over to Clubman gel which works much better for me. As always YMMV.

Well, pomade is made to stay in, so I was just wondering. Groom and Clean doesn't stay in, though, which is nice sometimes.

The Clubman gel seems to stay in my hair after rinsing. I've notice my hair has body and is not limp or flat. My problem with Brylcreem was my hair was just too greasy and would get dirty in a day or so.

I use both Brylcreem and Groom and Clean. While they are different formulas--one being cream-like and the other being gel-like, I haven't found an issue with either washing out after a shower. Maybe it's just me, but after a good shampooing, the remnants of both of these are gone.

If I shampoo the Brylcreem will be gone. However, if I just rinse it stays and then the problems which I mention start. Don't seem to have those problems with Clubman Gel. BTW, I may give Groom and Clean a try. I've grown my hair long and I need some body or my hair is all over the place.

Shampooing definitely gets it out, but I don't wash my hair everyday. Maybe once a week.

Not trying to start anything, but why would you NOT shampoo every day? I'm going to be 60 this year and I wouldn't dream of not shampooing my hair daily. Doesn't (didn't) matter whether my hair was long (ponytail in the day) or short (now), still to not shampoo would just be... non-hygenic.

Your hair has natural oils. You do not need to wash your hair everyday. In fact, that can be quite damaging. Some people never shampoo their hair and it looks fantastic.

I suppose this is one of those YMMV things as with my natural oils, by the 2nd day without shampooing my hair lays flat and is oily looking, almost greasy. No amount of combing or brushes has ever made it look good after that.
ETA: this could be why I've never had any problems with dandruff???:001_rolle

That's to be expected. It's something your body does because of constant shampooing. Within a few days that'll get better.

I have not used shampoo in a year, but I use a conditioner daily. Conditioner seems to clean my hair without stripping the natural oil. For those interested, try washing your hair products out with conditioner only.

I've heard that works great

[potentially not quite on topic]
After about six weeks of not washing my hair (yeah, sounds gross does it not!) the initial greasiness of my hair died down and it just became lustrous. Being quite fine, my hair would hold a soft position just due to the natural oils produced. I am convinced, but have no non-anecdotal evidence, that greasiness N hours, days, weeks after shampooing is due to the body overcompensating for the dryness. When I wash my hair now I just use water. Same thing in armpits and groin. Result? I just smell like me-- which I am told is pretty good-- and not of chemicals. Come to think about it the only artificial scent I use externally is the bay rum in my shave soap.

That was six years ago. If I were to work as a fishmonger, garbage collector, any other 'smelly' job I could not pull this off, of course.

I purchased Brylcream Earlier this week, Because The Product i was using was too sticky.
(Not to mention that the other stuff I looked at in The Ladies Hair Dept Is Expensive.)
I used Some on Wednesday, And I Like it so far.
It Doesn't Make My Hair Sticky, and it seems to condition my hair and Leave it feeling softer.
It Also seems to be Controlling "fly away" Hair as well.
If it keeps performing Like This, I Will Be using this Product for a Very long Time.
I Have Heard of a few other Women using this Product, So I Don't Feel alone.
Just my $0.02

I switched to Brylcreem about 2 months ago from Gel. I had been using Gel in my hair since I can remember!

We only have the "Tubs" here in Oz, and I've tried both the Anti-Dandruff and the Classic.. Love both... really nice products!

Yeah....no. I have female friends that say the same thing you do, but I tried the "rinse only" thing, and tried washing every 2-3 days. Not only did my hair look disgusting, it smelled gross. I spoke to a hairdresser about it and she said "Some guys' hair is just more oily than others, and especially if you keep it short, it's more noticeable. Try avocado oil in between shampoos when you rinse."

Um, no. I'll stick to shampooing thanks.

My hair and skin are both very oily...so, I have to shampoo my hair fairly often, or it looks very greasy. I also have to use some kind of soap on my body (I am currently using an antibacterial body wash) or I stink and my skin breaks out.

When my hair is fairly short, I use Groom and Clean. When it is longer, I use a spray gel, or mousse. If it was just up to me, I'd buzz my hair off and not have enough to even comb...but I did that once, and my wife refused to go anywhere with me until it grew back out. I do look better with some hair, I admit.

I used Brylcream when I was a kid, but not since. It's just too greasy...makes me look like Don Draper on Mad Men. (Except I'm not that good looking...or tall...or thin.)

I don't wash it out in the evening, but yes - every morning.

I prefer the European version of Brylcreem - the US version has a bit too much fragrance in it and a different texture.

I threw mine in the trash, but it is an oily product that will build up in your hair if you don't use shampoo.

If your hair is really short, shampooing every day is fine, although unnecessary. Unless you're a mechanic or do manual labor.
