Using blades other than Feather for the AS-D1?

I was just wondering what other blades people like with this razor, or if it is mostly just Feather/Feather....

I used mine for the first time this morning, with a Feather blade, and I was very impressed. Nice and smooth shave.

it's a very good razor... milder than my tastes now, but still a well engineered and fine DE razor. Enjoy yours!

though I haven't touched my AS-D1 in weeks, I liked the feathers and also Personna med/labs, Poli silver SIs in it..

my go to DE now, when not using a straight, is a Merkur 39C sledgehammer slant - and I love the same blades in that. Feather, Personna med/labs and PS SIs certainly a more aggressive razor than the AS-D1

YMMV

I owned 2 Feather DE's - beautiful finish, very nice weight to the razor - but even after 50+ shaves with the 2 combined I had to sell them.
No matter what angle I tried and how much/little pressure I used, no DE blade - whether I used a Feather, Persoanna Red, Gillette 7 O'Clock Blue, 7 O'Clock Yellow, Astra SP, Timor or Derby - even after a 48 pass shave I had 75% stubbles left all over my beard area.

A lovely looking piece of beautifully crafted totally useless DE Razor was my final conclusion unfortunately :001_unsur
The 2 guys I sold my 2 Feather razor to shared my opinion and resold theirs after trying to learn to master it for a couple of weeks...... I think Feather has an issue with one of their CNC machines, that makes some of them utter useless, while the rest are just a mild pleasent DE razor to use..... just my 2 cents !

Would love to own a Feather DE, that I could actually shave with - because as said, what a beauty it is.....

Tried it twice and sold it twice. Great for you that you are enjoying it. Congratulations and i would highly recommend the Super Iridiums; smooth, sharp, long-lasting blades; the best in my opinion.

Feather / Feather combo works best for me. (My AS-D1 is the ultra rare kind that makes you bleed if you get sloppy with your technique). A collectable user......

I find that Feathers in the AS-D1 work really well for me. I think that this beautifully made, high quality razor is great. I shave everyday, and use the AS-D1 every third morning and really like the razor.

For me, the AS-D1 is a keeper. It's different, but works for me.

Little off topic, but your post causes me to ask what other razors you enjoy when not using the AS-D1. While the Feather is one of my favorites, also on my short list is Aristocrat Jr., '46 Milord, FatBoy and a vintage Merkur slant.

Feather blades. For me, they are the best that I have tried in my AS-D1.

It could just be my face or my (low?) expectations for a shave, but I love my AS-D1. (I also regularly use a WWII-era fat-handle Tech and a 1961 Aristocrat on 5, both usually with Feather blades.)

hmm i am trying to figure this out myself. It is so mild compared to the de89 which I just found out works really with with Gillette blues

I have to use a shim, even with a Feather blade but since I am using a shim (foam, not a clipped blade) I found the SI works very well, if not better than the Feather.

i would not consider myself any kind of expert but I have no trouble getting a dfs with this razor. I have never been one to go for bbs shaves and I generally do one pass with touch up. and this razor gets the job done. I seem to be able to easily find the so called sweet spot without really even trying. I have been wet shaving for probably 10 years or so. One thing I will say is that by far the best blade for this guy is the feather. I believe it was engineered with the very sharp feather blade in mind and that's why the combo is hard to beat.
