What's new

Used Mystic Water soap for the first time today

In other threads you acknowledge you get good lather from MWF yet some others don't. What prevents them from achieving it? Answer that and you have the answer to your MW question.

To emphasize this point, I've never had worse lather than what I got from MWF. Other guys love it. If you've seen my lather porn with QCS, it's clearly not a matter of me having poor lathering skills. Water quality and other factors can affect the end result with any soap. Anyone who suggests that problems with a soap lie entirely with the skills of the individual aren't necessarily correct.

Actually even in this thread my positive experience with MWF is stated for the record. It seems to me that with MWF it IS the soap; I don't demonize those who can't get it to lather...I blame the soap for being so darn finicky. If it didn't work for me, it would be in the basura, with no tears shed. Once MW gets the mileage and broad usage which D R Harris, MWF, AOS and others have garnered, the market, not me, will decide where the product ranks.
And dissenting opinions should not only be welcome, they should be encouraged, as I know they are and will continue to be.

Like moths to a flame apparently......

Glad you enjoyed it Darkbulb! Hope one day you are able to use the scented versions!

Ask me about shaving naked!
Just a suggestion about testing soaps, I've seen comments about MWF being more finicky to lather, so I tried it with distiller water and it was almost like soft serve ice cream.

So maybe try distilled if you're having lathering problems. It's under $1 for a gallon and removes all the "water factors" from your trials. If everyone did this it would make comparisons more useful by providing a common baseline. Using distilled also makes it easy to compare the effect of whatever tap water you have in your part of the country/world.

Cheers, Steve

Really, I've written too much about this topic, but...
MWF is MWF...not likely Mitchell's will make many voluntary (i.e., non-regulatory) changes to their product today or in the near future.
Michelle, however, reads this forum and at this point in her marketing trajectory if she sees a need to tweak her soaps formulae, she could probably do so with a minimum of major negative impact.
I'm not suggesting she needs to do so, let alone because my individual experience wasn't great. But she undoubtedly likes to stay informed about the way her products are used and perceived and didn't get this far ignoring what her customers say.
P.S. Michelle, if you are following this thread, DO NOT change your shampoo bar or hair oil...both are IMHO just great as they are!

Amen to the last line! Her hair products are the best, bar none!

Sardinian Honey and Sandalwood Rose!!!! Just get them both for the scents, Absolutely intoxicating!
I, also, have to admit myself a lover of this soap. Michelle makes one of the best soap around and is second to none in scents.
Enjoy whatever soap you are using and enjoy your shaves. This is the main principle of this wonderful journey.:blushing:

My "Mystic Water Love Fest" continued this morning. Used the Unscented one for the 2nd time..and wow...just wow.... Lathers like a champ and gives me a fantastic shave!
Love, love, love it!

I will try the Sterling line of soaps as well though as I'm curious to make a comparison between the two.

I tried MW (Sardinian Honey) and could not get a good lather, it was airy and thin and I gave it away after a few frustrating attempts. I think water hardness may have been an issue but this surprised me since I am in the same geographic area where it is made. I have had no problems with lots of other soaps in my area like QCS, Mike's, Tabac, and Arko. I have used MWF and tried a method I saw explained on Youtube where you use some of the excess water on your brush to soak up a bit of the soap then wring the water out into a bowl and subsequently use that favorable water (rather than tap water) to subsequently moisten your brush. That worked with MWF after some initial poor latherings but I did not try it with MW. I should have tried this with MW and this could very well work if you have water issues.

Also I could not get over the scent, to me it was extremely powerful. Now I did smell it at the Kensington market where it was sold but it was wrapped in plastic wrap so the scent was very muted. I think this was why I bought it since with the plastic wrap on it was one of the few with a discernable smell, should have known that might translate into a strong unwrapped smell. Compared with Tabac for me, this is even more powerful (obviously different though) in smell. In the future, I would get a sample first or ask to unwrap it and smell it first.

I did buy some MW soap and shampoo bars. I have not tried the soap but the shampoo bars are fantastic, the best I have had. Also Michelle was very nice to work with, gave my daughter a sample lip balm, and I could tell she was really trying to connect with her customers. All in all, another instance of YMMV. I may give another MW shave soap a try in the future but will go with unscented.

...It lathered SUPER easy and I actually think I today had the best lather I've ever had ...

I like the scent, the froth I whipped up was slick, but I wouldn't call it lather. I've tried several times over the last week or two without much success. Glad to hear someone likes it, but it hasn't worked for me. Maybe there's a trick to I haven't learned.

I just tried this for the first time and I was able to whip up a nice thick lather fairly quick, but it was not stable at all. It dissipated within a minute or two each time. I have probably 30 or so soaps and have been able to lather them all pretty well. Admittedly, we have pretty hard water here, but the others still work well. I haven't given up and plan to give it a try again...Tomorrow perhaps! I hope I can get it to work. I have the Wild Lavender and Lavender Lime and I love the scents.

If you describe it as "froth", then you are definitely not loading enough soap, or perhaps it's a combination of too much water in your brush, not enough loading time, and impatience. When I lather my soap for demonstrations it only takes me 3 or 4 minutes from start to finish and the resulting lather is so thick that I can leave the bowl aside for 20 minutes or so unchanged (no dissipating).

Possibly too much water, but I'm not working it nearly as long as that. I can get a good lather from of Col. Conk in a minute to minute and a half. I'll give it another try and a little more time.

I’m not a fan
I can lather both MW & Mikes no problem, they are both great soaps IMHO.

I can't get as good a lather from MWF...

Got my first MW in the post yesterday. One thing is for sure, the Bergamot, Cedarwood & Juniper is a keeper. It smells very much like fresh Sichuan peppercorns ... which may well be my favourite thing in food.

Thanks for the little extras Michelle.
