Caught a news item that the 25% tariff on single malts is being suspended for 4 months...

Tariffs on UK cheese and cashmere will also be lifted as the countries try to resolve an old trade row.

I actually asked the guys in a pretty big wine/spirits store what they thought about the timing and the one guy said he didn't think we'd see any break because there's so much stock in the supply system that any savings would just get absorbed by the distributors.

This is what the cynic in me thought - especially if it's a temporary suspension. If the tariff is permanently reduced, some of the reduction will eventually trickle down to the consumer.

It may take a little while, but the price reduction will happen. Someone will make the move and reduce their prices to the margins they had. It's too easy for the consumer to check prices online.
