Upgrading my Brush - Suggestions

Hey all,

Looking into buying an artisan type brush for my new shave brush. My pharmacy-grade boar brush is going to be retired! :)

I'm thinking about getting a silvertip or best - I'd like something softer than the boar for a change, but not too floppy.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with Rudy Vey - http://ultimatependesigns.com - or Zen Shave - http://www.zenshave.com ?

I’ve seen a bunch of Rudy’s stuff on the forum here – it all looks great and his reputation is solid. The Zen Shave stuff looks amazing but there’s not too much info out there from what I can find.

They both look to make really nice quality gear - I'd like to get something done in a nice figured wood.

Thanks!

Rudy has made several custom brushes for me and I am a very satisfied customer. I do not know anything about Zen. It looks like they have some very unconventional handles. They seem to be of high quality although I would not purchase one because I do not like brushes with wood handles. It's just a preference thing. I can easily recommend working with Rudy.

Rudy Vey will make exactly what you want. Ever since I have received mine I have only used my boar brush once or twice. I honestly have no desire to pick up another brush. It face lathers, bowel lathers and everything in between. This is what I asked for and received.
Love it and highly recommend one!

Check out Rod Neep if you're willing to wait a bit. I have 1 brush and 2 more on the way. I really like his unconventional designs and the quality is superb.

Thanks for the info.
I might venture to the unknown with zenshave.com.
I am a sucker for the wood grain and the design work.

The Stag handled brushes on pensoftheforest.co.uk caught my eye
It looks different...but, not sure if it is for me.

Can't make up my mind.
I will post my final decision, when i receive it

Restore an old original. The handles came in many interesting designs not seen today, they are usually cheap to purchase, doing the restore is ridiculously easy, and TGN knots are affordable and top notch. For about $30.00 you can have something unusual that you probably won't see replicated, customized to your knot type and size preference, and the pride of having recreated it yourself.

You used to be able to purchase the shavmac knots.

I would start there and pick the knot you want... THEN find someone to custom make a handle for your knot.

Knot size and loft set are going to be determined by how you intend on using the brush (face lather bowl lather). there is no such thing as one size fits all so you will need to get this part past you before you can think about anything else
