What's new

Upgrading from my razor after 15 years..

First off, Welcome to B&B.

Any razor can be used daily if your technique is good enough. As @Rosseforp hinted, a light touch is recommended with an R41.

You've said you're looking for a more aggressive razor than your current Merkur 38C, so a Muhle R41 or a Merkur 39C slant should fit the bill. You might want to get a blade sampler as well - the blade you favored in your old razor might not be your favorite in the new one.

How much you looking to spend? Do you want another zamak razor or do you want to step up to stainless, brass, or Ti? Lots of options out there to fit all budgets.

Not knowing the answers to the questions above, I believe a reasonable step up would be the RazoRock Lupo 95 solid bar. Great razor at an affordable price.

I wouid echo the advice given. If you can find it, the Gamechanger .84 is a nice everyday driver that will give a good close shave. That is my autopilot razor and paired with a Kai blade and it is sharp. Next up is the Lupo. I love the .95. Above that would be the r41.
The EJ 3one6 is near the above Gamechanger in terms of gap and blade exposure but not exact.
I am a big fan of the Gamechanger and Lupo given the options.

Thanks but it appears none of the razors you mentioned are sold in Australia.

I should also have added im not really interesting or see the point of an adjustable razor. My facial hair grows the same every night so why would I need an adjustment feature when I would refer to the same setting each morning.
I think most of us missed that.... Living in Australia does limit your choices. I'm glad @aussie is involved in the advice giving. He knows the Australian market much better than I do, that's for sure.

I just posted on my two new razor purchases with which I am pleasantly surprised:

If you are willing to try open comb, I would recommend the Fatip lo Sorto (slant) or the Yaqi Chrome Mellon. They are both extremely well made, low cost, and lots of fun!

Oh I am afraid that you have confused me with @AU55IE. That guy is just a pretender and spends his days and night fantasising about being me. It is a totally forgivable mistake seeing as his handle is so very similar to mine.

Don't be fooled though - there can only be one TRUE @aussie !!

Try a Parker SemiSlant if available....they are good and inexpensive .... or get a Pearl adjustable....both bar and OC are nice *a bit heavy..
Merkur Progress is good.

I would consider the blackbird ti. You have to use a light touch and be a bit careful, but it always gives a close shave. You can use it as your primary razor or just as a finishing razor for your cheeks and neck (avoiding having to be careful around the jaw line).
