What's new

Updated Top 10 Sept 15, 2012

1. Dior Homme (original > reformulation) -- still be best
2. VCA Midnight in Paris EDP -- lately has become my daily scent. Might take the top slot as things are currently going. EDP is creamier and better than EDT
3. Dior Homme Intense (both original and reformulated) -- very gourmand
4. Creed Windsor -- elegant
5. L'Instant de Guerlain pour homme Eau Extreme
6. FM Musc Ravageur - special occasion sexy scent
7. Guerlain Cologne du 68 -- Classic guerlinade
8. Bvlgari Black -- out of nowhere on the list but I am enjoying it a lot after initially thinking it was just ok
9. Chanel Egoiste -- masterpiece but I find myself wearing this less lately
10. Diptyque Eau Duelle -- excellent spicy vanilla

Honorable mention: La Nuit YSL, New Haarlem

Future purchases/suggestions based on above list recommended.
On my radar:
Ferragamo F pour homme Black - made by O Polge, who has made my #1 and #2 frags above and it well respected fragrance
Divine L'Homme de Couer - told it's like Dior Homme
Guerlain Cuir Beluga - another O Polge creation. Only reason I haven't tried it yet is because it's so expensive. Maybe on next trip to Vegas or NYC.
Kenzo Power Cologne - very hard to find nowadays. I have Kenzo Power. Like it but I'm told the cologne is BETTER. Yet another O Polge creation.

You've got a major vanilla jones going there...

I love Divine L'Homme Sage... Think I briefly sniffed the Coeur and don't recall thinking "Dior Homme." Let us know what you think. Dior Homme captured the iris in a way I've not seen anyone else come close to.

I just got an unsolicited compliment from my wife today (if that counts) saying "you smell good what is that". Cologne du 68, 2 sprays.

I don't think my top ten has changed much. At present, it looks like this:

1. Creed Windsor- the one that made me revisit rose.
2. DC 1913- Rose with tobacco. I have to thank Punjaji for turning me on to this one.
3. Montale Black Aoud- Rose really seems to dominate the top of my list.
4. Dior Leather Oud- The more I wear it, the better it gets. It is rapidly climbing the list, and should be higher as the weather cools.
5. Creed Feuille Verte- while some Creeds leave me wanting, when they get it right, they are fantastic; my wife's favorite.
6. Dior Eau Sauvage- my Summer go to.
7. Lubin Idole EdP- Sweet and boozy.
8. Montale Full Incense- I'm a big incense fan and this is my favorite of a handful of great fragrances.
9. L'Occitane Eau des Baux- my favorite vanilla, with a touch of incense underneath.
10. Parfumerie Generale Coze 02- The one I was surprised to like. The cannabis, wood, spice and chocolate are very comforting. This one is perfect when wearing a sweater on a brisk Autumn day.

Nice list mdivine ... Several of those are in my top rotation. I see you love Feuille Verte. What's your quick take on that one. I have a tough time categorizing it. Feels a bit like a high, high end Old Spice vibe to me.

While some of the floral notes, particularly the Bulgarian rose, is reminiscent of Old Spice, it doesn't have the cinnamon and clove notes. For me, Feuille Verte gives me a vibe of walking through the woods on a clear Spring Day with the flowers first coming into bloom in the surrounding meadow. The opening lime is bright and clean, with the oakmoss giving it that green, woody feeling. As the opening fades, there is the rose with a great jasmine scent that is what makes this one so special for me.

I'm trying to decide on purchasing Divine L'Homme de Couer vs. Guerlain Cuir Beluga vs. Ferragamo F pour homme Black, all of which would be blind buys since none of these are available near me.

I'm concerned that the Divine Couer will be more iris like the Prada iris (which I think is OK but nowhere near Dior Homme....far too soapy). I smelled Ferragamo F Black about a year ago (I think), and reviews state it is a night scent similar to Nuit -- and I have enough night scents that I don't need another Nuit. Cuir Beluga sounds AWESOME, but $250 for a blind buy is risky. I know there's the decant route, but Perfumed Court has 5 ml for $45, which to me is more insane than just spending the full $250.

My current Top 10

1. Chanel Platinum Egoiste
2. Chanel Egoiste

Very few people place platinum over egoiste. I personally am the same as you with that regard. I love platinum egoiste, and it is the only cologne I currently use. It has been a number of years since I wore egoiste, I should try it some time soon to see if I still prefer platinum

I haven't played the top 10 list game in a while, so I'll give it a go:

1. Tauer Lonestar Memories
2. Odori Tabacco
3. Clive Christian C (Probably not worth the price, but it is admittedly a better composition than Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather which would otherwise occupy this slot).
4. Azzaro Pour Homme
5. Montale Oud Cuir d'Arabie (Slightly edges out DC 1913 as my favorite rose although the leather clearly is the dominant player)
6. Creed Vintage Tabarome
7. PdE Cuir Ottoman
8. Chanel Cuir de Russie (Pure parfum. I used to dislike this and have turned a 180 on it).
9. Dior Homme (Vintage)
10. Lutens Cuir Mauresque

I have a leather fetish.... I can't help it. :001_wub:

I realize I left Montale Patchouli Leaves off the list but it belongs on there somewhere. It is the one I'm most likely to be complimented on. I don't know which one I'd leave off the list, though. I guess that Eau Sauvage is less llikely to be reached for as Summer comes to an end.

I am wearing Eau Duelle today and DAMN this is a good scent. A masculine vanilla, that outdoes most of the other vanillas out there (that are too sweet).

Where is Zino available?
Is it an 80s old man scent?

Skip that 'Old man scent' and grow up

Just because your father or grandfather used something does not make it an old mans scent - only in your head :biggrin1:

So because your grandfather drove a Ferrari 275 GTB, does that make it an old mans car ?
It's an old car, but today a true classic - same with scents :001_cool:

Zino is a dark stylish fantastic scent, not for insecure youngsters, only a youngster with true balls will pull it off - the boring masses, who think they are so hip when they wear their boring Azzaro Chrome and Chanel Allure Sport will find it dark, heavy and too 80's.

I own both Azzaro Chrome, Chanel Allure Sport, 1 Million, Black XS, Acqua di Gio - and a huge amount of other boring designer scents, that are popular today - and I do enjoy them from time to time - but Zino, it's a toally different league.
This is niche quality juice for $35 a bottle.

When I smell Old Spice on an old man, I don't think 'huhh...he's an old man wearing an old mans scent', just as I don't think 'huhh......he's an insecure immature youngster' when I smell Azzaro Chrome or 1 Million on a young guy.
I just think - 'Hey, they like that scent - maybe they are not into fragrances, and think they a wearing some great stuff - good for them'

Widen your horizon a little bit, my friend :001_smile
