What's new

Unreal! Fatboy

So I went to a local antique shop and the owner informed me that they had a beautiful razor with the original case. When I got there I saw it in all its beauty. A beautiful shiny fatboy with the case and blade dispenser. I was hoping to get away with spending around 50$, but to my astonishment the owner wanted 80 bones. And they wouldn't budge. I got them to go to 75 but IMO I don't think that was a fair price. What do you think should I pick it up for 75?

If it was like new, maybe 75 would be OK. They go here uncassed for around $30 so I think cased, 40-50 would be acceptable.

+1 I think a little patience browsing the BST will pay off...Lots of nice ones come up fairly often. For very fair $$'s

If you do not mind spending time looking you might do better for less...maybe not.
I have got them from $2.00 to $20.00 uncased and cased, paint no paint.
They all worked and I enjoy the hunt....not everyone does.

Good Luck.

I was offered a Fatboy cased with a gillette blade dispenser for 55$. Does seem like a fair deal?

If the case is in good shape, and the razor has no brassing or other flaws...(faded numbers are ok) I say it's a fair price.:thumbup1:

Keep in mind that the antique dealer isn't going to sell you the cased fatboy at a "reasonable price you might find on the B&B"... he is looking at eBay where he is seeing cased Fatboys with blades go for 100+... In that regard, maybe his price is fair (along with paying overhead, holding before you buy, etc.)

On the bay its even crazier. Go take a look, they are selling as high as 75$ cased and 56$ uncased.

Pictures were not the best but at that price it might be worth the risk.

Did you win this?

Yes I did
the pictures weren't the best I have to agree, but it seemed to look good (I know for sure it's a FB), and mechanically it works fine.
