unknown star on a Old Type head

I´ve received a 501 Pocket edition from Australia with missmatched pieces and canadian blades. Has anybody a idea about this star under the head?

Interesting. Could you explain what you mean by "mismatched" Achim? The case, handle, and head look like what I'd expect from 1912.

As far as the *, I haven't seen that before. Maybe it stood for something like "pre-production run" or something like that?

That´s what I´ve received: 1 handle, 2 base plates, 1 cap. Sorry for the poor pictures: inside pictures with flash are not so good. I believe the left base plate and cap are belong together (102A) and the right base plate is missing the cap (102).

The normal stampings look kind of shallow, while the star stamping is deep and very clear.
This may mean it was done at a different time, though one who think that it was done before plating.
