Unique Pipes

Hello everyone, I realize that this isn't a smokers forum but I thought I would start a new thread on unique pipes. I have seen a lot of briar and even corncob pipes in various shapes and sizes, I have quite an extensive collection myself. I even have these rather unique pipes here

I bought these pipes about 3-yrs ago from a local smoke shop, when I saw them I thought "these are too unique to pass up!"

I have yet to smoke them, I've been a little apprehensive about smoking these pipes in public and getting weird looks from people or even getting negative reactions from people wondering if I'm a pothead, but I was wondering if anyone here has any unique pipes as well. Post em up, lets have a look, these pipes I have I really love the way they look, they are the most unique pipes I have seen. I still don't know if I should smoke them in public though.

Technically, the BL is a smokers forum. Whether you smoke those in public is up to you, I'd be more concerned with the material they are made of and if they are intended to be smoked or if they are just an art piece. They would certainly garner some odd looks in the gen-pop, but who cares what they think?:biggrin1:

I agree, who cares what other people may think! :biggrin1:

These pipes appear to be made of Rosewood or Teak and have either a marble or granite funnel shaped bowl built into them

I mean, I supose its no worse smoking Drum Halfzware in these than it is smoking a hand-rolled cigarette of Halfzware in a vintage Frank Medico filtered holder like this one

But yeah, I do follow what you mean about being concerned about the material. Probably if I take my time and don't smoke things too fast everything should be fine.

Smoke them and get back to us. I'd like to know if they smoke hot and if the outside of the bowl is hot to the touch.

Yes, they really do have an Eastern look about them. They are from Indosesia, and I've even seen them made in India as well.

I will give them a whirl this week and let everyone know how they smoke and if they get hot. I love the way these are designed, especially the big one; my brother calls it the Navarone LOL!!

So I was just wondering does anyone have usique pipes they want to post a picture of?

Perhaps not the same as these but anything unique would be awesome to see.

This one is nice, I like the twisted shank it has. And from the looks of things it looks convertible; from churchwarden to standard. Wow, nice way to branch out!
I like the way it converts. You have just inspired me to go out and buy my first churchwarden pipe, along with a second shorter stem. Maybe I'll just see if I can get a churchwarden stem for one of my existing pipes...

I've always wanted to try a churchwarden....beautiful pipes!

Those first pipes posted..... gorgeous carving....in public...well if you smoked them in a smokers friendly environment ( think a cigar bar, or a hookah lounge) I don't think you would get any strange looks.....may even start some interesting conversations!

Absolutely, churchwarden pipes are nice. I have a Cellini churchwarden made in France, it's a nice, cool smoker.

OK, so I smoked one of the pipes on my dinner break at school tonight

It smokes really good, the bowl didn't get the slightest bit hot; not even the marble funnel cup! :wink2:
I smoked some Drum Halfzware in it and it was very nice and mellow. Talk about some powerful stuff, this Halfzware gave a descent buzz and had a nice flavor too it that was spicy, creamy and just plain ol' nice!

I am presently surprised by this pipe, I got a few strange looks from people but hey, who cares, right?

Thats a good idea, Stanwell I believe makes a series of churchwarden pipes with both a long and short stem called the Hans Christian Anderson

They are very nice pipes and reasonably priced considering what you get.

There is a guy near me that'll fix any pipe to be a warden for like, $15 bucks plus shipping.

Classic, what are those pipes called? Where can I find one?

Hey Gurnall, I found these in a local smokeshop near me. I actually have no idea what they are called, some people call them wooden hookas, others call them Indonesian tobacco pipes. I believe they are from Indonesia or India, I actually haven't seen them online too often except for on ebay and other places. You might most certainly find one in China Town or any Asia market that sells pipes and what not.

Save the picture I have posted and take it to a local smokeshop; not a tobacconist that sells expensive cigars mind you, a typical smokeshop that sells cigarettes and other things. I'm sure they will be able to find one for you at a reasonable price. I paid about $10 per pipe at the local smokeshop in Benecia.

I might be dead wrong here, but I always thought Drum was cigarette tobacco. At least that is what I have always used it as when I feel like a hand rolled cigarette.

No you're right, but it alsois a nice blend to smoke in a pipe as well because its very complaex, spicy, rich, and just down right nice. Give it a try some time; if you smoke pipes that is, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I googled India smoking pipe and found some pics but no ordering info/prices. I'll have another look around.

Thank you, this is a wonderful website!

I see what you mean, there are no links anywhere to order the pipes. I sent an email requesting some clearification as to how one is to place an order as to this can be quite frustrating. So hopefully they will respond soon and we can place an order.

mmm, let me tell you guys a story:

Last Thursday, after taking my dog for a walk in a new neighborhood , I took my corn cob and proceeded to have a puff, relaxing leaning against my car...long story short, a police patrol car stopped after a while, a very nice officer, a woman, inquired "what I was smoking", apparently someone called them after confusing the smell of my recently acquired penzance with the "green leaf" (no, not talking about tea here), nothing happened, and again, the officer was very nice..however, I still think that I was fortunate for not being smoking one of my 'funny shaped" pipes.

First time something like that happens to me.

Nice pipes by the way, theclassicgentleman, nice ones for sure.
