Underarms.

Anyone else shave them?

I will every month or so.

I have my reasons:

Foremost, I think underarm hair location is the most wildly useless, grotesque, putrid hair location on the human body. More than any other place. I have thought so since the first time I was horrified to see my own in seventh grade.

Secondly, I hate deodorant/anti-ps. I hate the way it feels, smells, looks, stops at 9 AM, and so forth. I have tried many...the Nancy Boy spray is great, but the price is the old showstopper.

This is the only body-spot I will take a razor to, ever. Oh, I may mow the southern lawn once in a few, but under the arm is it....anyone else?

Thoughts? Am I alone in this?

I would never do it, but my son does. His football pads irritate the area badly enough that shaved and lubed with body-glide seems his best bet. He uses one of my Techs for that I think.

I do, about once or twice a month for hygienic reasons. I find that deodorants work much better and they stay much cleaner when I do. I used to trim but got a lot of irritation from that VS shaving. I use a 60's aluminum handled tech and a feather.

I did once, hoping that it would help with my BO problem. In fact, it made it worse because my deoderant had nothing to "stick" to, in addition to becoming very very irritated.

My final solution was this:

Works like a charm. No BO, no sweating, I'm a happy camper!

is that a solid AP?

Sort of... It's not a gel, it's not clear... More like a cream. Works great though, and it really does work for 24 hours. I put it on after I get my shower at night, and I'm still smelling fresh when I get in the shower the next day. It's 20% aluminum, costs about $11-12 at Wal-Mart, and one "bar" lasts me about 2 months. There're other brands, but the top of the Gillette brand provides better coverage, IMO. I honestly think it's worth a try for ANYONE that has sweat/BO problem. I've gotten several guys at work hooked on it (same with DE shaving!).

ETA: The $11-12 is for the larger size, ~2.6 oz. I believe the smaller size is $8-9 for ~1.6 oz.

The "clinical strength" antiperspirants work really well, but I hate the feeling they leave on my underarms. Especially when I go to shower the next day, my armpits are very tacky and it feels like this stuff is impossible to wash off. Also I find the scents to be overpowering and not very well done, very artificial.

I've tried Certain-Dri before, and that one does work very well, but it also makes my underarms itch like crazy after a few days.

Yep, I do. Mostly 'cuz my wife likes it, but also because I like to use anti-perspirant rather than deodorant, and it just doesn't work with hairy underarms.

I shave my arm pits because deodarant and antiperspirants work a lot better with out hair... I do this every few days!

Cheers,

shaved the pits once, the most painfull experience of my life.
They don't call me bear for nothing...
i hit my whole body with a set of clippers with a #1 in the summer months, a #2 in the winter. I keep the pits consistent with the #1 every other week. Bo no longer comes from my pits, and the deoderant/ap is more effective.

I trim down south aswell, and will shave bald from time to time, but mostly trim.

I've shaved my pits at various points in my life. I did it for my football pads, did it off and on while wrestling after having it pulled and have done it for other reasons. I didn't think having underarm hair really impacted either BO or the effectiveness of deodorants. However, I don't sweat much and my BO isn't strong.

Also, lets keep this shave discussion North of the Equator and on topic with the OP's question.

I do, probably once a month with a little hair trimmer.
I find that it stops me sweating as much and the deodorant smell lasts longer without all that hair.

It'd take me a week and 300 blades to do my body (my nicknames centaur, half man-half horse....... mostly cos I'm hairiest from the waist down.....).

Tried shaving them and other areas once, A). Came up in a rash, and B). Itched like **q***x**z* when it started to grow back, considered getting lasered in a certain area... bit cheeky... I certainly ain't sticking a DE down there.... Underarms are also a pain to get into and I ended up getting a very small tuft left in the middle....

I trim, but even then the electric clippers get caught up after an inch or so....
