Uncut currency?

I recently came into possession of some uncut US currency--$1, $5, $20, in four-bill sheets, series 2004. Since I can ride my bike down to the Bureau of Printing and Engraving and buy these for slightly more than face value, I'm of the impression that these are primarily novelties, and won't appreciate significantly. Am I wrong here? Is there any real reason to hold on to these, or should I just cut 'em up and spend 'em? Thanks, gents.

You mean you're saving the bureau the labor of cutting these bills, and they charge you more than face value? I'd ask for a discount next time.

I think the value of these would be paying for a four dollar item with one sheet of 4x$1 -- be sure to take a camera.

No uncut bills are definitely collectible, but I couldn't tell you if they will appreciate any and if so how much, as I'm much more in collecting coins rather than paper money. If you really want to get rid of them, you would probably be much better off selling them at a store specializing in coins and the like, as you how get paid based on the value of these uncut bills as a collectible item, which is probably more than face value in any case.

Sounds like the kind of collectible that has little value over face right now, but some time down the line may appreciate significantly. Or they may not. Collectibles are unpredictable that way. I second the suggestion from gollum83 to sell them to a collectibles dealer. As long as you are getting more than face value you'll be doing better than just cutting the bills up and using them.

My other suggestion if you don't need the money would be to find a neighbor or relative, preferably a kid, who collects coins and give them to him/her. You may not appreciate the novelty of the uncut bills, but that kid may think its the coolest thing in the world.

Thanks, guys. I spoke with a dealer in rare coins and stamps, and his immediate reaction was "cut 'em up and spend 'em. They might be worth more than face value in Y3K, but as long as you can buy them downtown, they're just a novelty."

The lower denominations will go intact to young relatives.
