Uncommon Plissons

True. I just find $1500+ for a brush a little absurd, but then again that is probably chump change to those who can afford such a brush.

It's the argument as why pay $6000 for a Rolex when you can buy a Timex for $20. They both tell time.

Henry, Thanks for the window shopping excursion..Beautiful craftsmanship..If they shave as good as they look, that would probably answer the question of worth....

The arrogance of Plisson is hard to express. I contacted them about a size 12 in Ivory and they refused to discuss hair or knot options with me, they said in a round-about way- will sell every one they make and what could I possibly know about brushes?

That's terrible even though it's likely to be true. I also asked about the size 12 in ivory and Plisson did send me a picture. Very disappointing IMO - it was an asymmetrical looking 3-band knot. I posted on this site and maybe that upset them a bit if they pay attention. I'm sure it would have been a decent brush but I would expect "true" 2-band HMW and a really top class knot in such a rare handle. Possible even a puck of soap and a certificate of of some kind thrown in for good measure. Needless to say I did not pursue it any further. If it had been a the real deal I might have wrung my hands for a couple of days considering the "once in a lifetime" opportunity.

I think that Dr. P got one of the bigger ones that looked like a "real" HMW.

There's a qualitative difference between a those watches though; ones is far better made, better materials, will last forever etc.

Is there a qualitative difference between Plissons and other 'high end' brushes?

Ok, substitute the $20 Seiko with a Tag Heuer for $1200. Both are made of exceptional material and will last forever, but a Tag ain't a Rolex.

None whatsoever.

There is a qualitative difference. The other high end makers are charging for faux material handles and their hair. If they used comparable handle materials the gaps in prices would shrink significantly.

This is similar to car makes. A Bentley isn't "that much better" than to a Mercedes to justify the $200K price difference if you are only considering "quality"... However, their is something in the unique "qualities" of a Bentley that makes the price significantly more. :001_smile
