Ultrasonic Cleaner and Brushes -Question

I am appealing to the collective wisdom on the forum regarding cleaning a shave brush using an ultrasonic cleaner. I normally just dip the bristles in the ultrasonic with great results. However I have a few brushes that have a metal ring just above the knot. The ring gets lime deposits and soap scum on it and I was thinking of using the ultrasonic to clean the ring. My worry is that the vibration from the Ultrasonic may loosen the knot. What would be the best (i.e. safest) way to clean the metal ring and handle of a shaving brush?

Spray window cleaner on a cloth, wrap it on your finger and run it around the ring. Or you can dip the cloth in jewelry cleaner.

I would be very wary of using a US cleaner on a brush. Usually a soak in vinegar or vinegar and borax will clean out any residue.

Use the least harsh methods. Some chemicals could eat the glue that keeps the knot in place.
I think a toothbrush/ rag with some Borax & Vinegar will work fine.

Thank you John...I think you are right. I damaged some of my wife jewelry in the ultrasonic cleaner and figure the vibration could loosen the knot. You are right; it is not worth the risk.

I remember reading in one of the shaving books (Gourmet Shaving) that you could clean the hair but not to let the knot & handle get into the Ultrasonic water. Leisureguy suggested using a little vinegar in the mix & cleaning for 5 minutes holding the brush knot just above the water. I've yet to try this as I have a water softener & so far no build up. If & when they do I will certainly try this type of cleaning!
I think the answer from bit2 & rickboone1 was a good one. Most window cleaners contain some vinegar as a cleaning aid for hard water. I feel that dabbed on cleaner versus soaking would be less likely to damage the epoxy in a knot.
I know exactly what you are talking about when "damaged some of my wife jewelry in the ultrasonic cleaner". I did the same thing! Then I did some searches on the net to learn more about what you can & shouldn't clean in them. Not very good instructions that came my cleaner. I don't offer to clean any of my wife's things in my cleaner anymore...
