U.K. Supermarket cuts cartridge prices by 40%

I'm currently sitting in an airport getting drunk before I board a flight so apologies if this isn't the most coherent post.

Anyways, I've just read an article in a British tabloid saying they have made a supermarket chain (ASDA) reduce the price of M3 and fusion carts by 40%. They also acuse Gillette of price fixing and basically say the robbing(insert B word here) have a 4000% mark up on their products. The tabloid I read it in is called The Sun so someone more sober than me might find a link and be able to post it.

Yeah the government has cracked the whip on Gillette and Wilkinson Sword for their ridiculous 4000% mark up but rather than reducing the prices they have given you a larger pack size. I was in Tesco the other day and for the same price of a pack of 8 fusion blades you now get 12 and a some of Gillette's moisturiser

Yep you can now get a years supply of blades in tesco all in 1 pack, though these offers seem to be on all the time lately, asda the other week were dong the fusion for £1.99 with 4 blades:confused:

On a football forum I go on the subject of shaving came up. One guy said he now has 7 fusions because it's cheaper to buy a razor with carts than it is to just buy replacement carts.

I'm not sure about that here maybe if it was on a great special offer. Back when I was shaving with the Fusion a pack of 8 blades were £18 and a normal fusion razor with 2 blades was £10, I only bought the razor when it would be half price at around £5 that was the best offer I ever saw.

Thats how i used to do it, instead of buying cartridges i would but the special offers and i used the fusion for about 5 months and went through 4 razors which came with either 4, 5 or 6 cartridges, crazy!

...so someone more sober than me ...

Without any or prior judgement about your options, i wouldn't be drinking before a flight...If anything goes wrong on the plane you're on your own, no discernment or understanding what it's going on... Not a wise choice in that circumstances.:tongue_sm

About carts...P&G do what they want, it seems, fixing prices and so on...How many of us had handles in their mail boxes regularly? Myself i have 5, free handles, carts to be paid...Anyway, post-Sensor carts are worthless.:mad3:

My GF used to get coupons for different free razors etc. so I used to just get a free razor and 4 blades, lasted me long enough I think I only bought one pack of blades in all :D

I'd go back to carts if I HAD too....... but it ain't gonna happen in my lifetime, minute it looks like DE's are getting harder to find I'll be stockpiling Derby's and feathers oh and several hundred sampler packs.......

The funny thing is just before i gave up on cartridges i started using the asda 5 blade system, regular price £5 for 4 cartridges and found them good and much cheaper than the gillettes, i wonder now if they will drop their price?

I'll never understand this oft repeated concept that because Gillette cartridge prices are so high, more men are choosing to not shave. Traditional wetshaving aside, there are at least 20 less expensive, and mostly more effective, options to shave whiskers off of your face.

I used a currency converter to make some interesting comparisons regarding the “reduced price” male Britons will now pay for their Gillette blades.

Paying 5 British pounds (sorry can’t find the weird symbol for pounds on my North American keyboard :001_smile) for a 4-pack of Fusion blades is 8,39 CAN dollars. It’s almost the same in US $ since the CAN $ is close to par these days.

Now, 8$ for a pack of Fusion blades is the regular price these blades are being sold in supermarkets and drugstores over here in Canada, and I am pretty sure the price is similar in the US. I think if you buy larger packs it can be even a bit less than 8$. Mind you, that still darn expensive…

Nonetheless, I can understand why Brits were feeling ripped off when they were paying 8 pounds for a 4-pack of Fusion ! That’s over 13$ for God’s sake !

In the land of Geo F. Trumpers, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Truefitt & Hill and the well-groomed British gentleman tradition, I can't believe this hasn't enticed more people to go DE !

Ah, while I still lived in Sweden I always bought my cartridges in the US because it was so much cheaper. I just checked and it seems as if they are currently charging around $20 for a 4-pack of fusion cartridges in Sweden. Glad I switched to DE
