Two Very Different Aluminium Techs- Any Info?

Picked up a ball end aluminium Tech at a boot fair today for 50p. Comparing it to my crosshatch handled Tech, they are so different.
Their both Made In England- the crosshatch handled one has "X1" on the baseplate so I guess that's 1977 and the ball end one is from the '50s but the heads are really different. Can anyone give me more info about the dates and differences of these Techs?

Dont be afraid...that is how i learn. I ask the dumbest of questions until i learn it. Thanks to Mr Razor website i have learn a lot of razor history.
