Two shaves a day too much?

So I shaved this morning with my new Synergy Vanilla Vetiver. Got a great shave and really liked the scent. Tried Krampert's Frostbite for the first time too and that was awesome! So I decided to have a second shave after my shower tonight to test the soap again.

It lathered great and I made a better lather than this morning. Blade goes on the face. Wow :scared:! That was a really rough shave. The lather was slick and full, but my skin was NOT ready for that second shave. Is this a common issue? I'm guessing 2 shaves a day is too much?

If you don't go for a BBS, you might be able to get away with it. If your technique is good.... Lots of ifs. In general, I'd say that twice a day is overkill.

Nothing to prevent you from lathering up without actually shaving.

I think it might be over doing it. That layer of skin will need time to heal.

Maybe if you did a one pass with touch ups in the morning and one pass with some touch ups at night.

I would stick to one a day.

At Virginia Military Institute, I had to shave three times a day to pass our morning, afternoon, and evening formations. I wasn't going for a BBS and typically a dry shave but your face adapts relatively quickly. Yet, I don't miss having to do it for so often. Now I'm a on M/W/F schedule.

Please note this was prior to DE usage and was with a multi-blade cartridge.

I do a 3 pass in the am, and usually shave again after work if going out or company comes over, so 2-3 times per week. Occasionally, if I miss my witch hazel in the am, I have a bit of oily skin that leads to irritation in the pm shave.

Some people can do it, some can't. Sounds like you can't. Welcome to the club; even shaving on consecutive days can be rough for me sometimes, I can't imagine what twice a day would do!

I've DE shaved twice a day a few times with no problems. The evening shave was smooth and irritation free. When I used to shave with cartridges I would shave 3 times a week, but with DE I average 6 shaves per week.

Many businessmen and professionals used to shave twice a day with DE's. I think its just something that the skin has to get used to.

Definitely a YMMV thing. I do a second shave in the evening as needed with no issues, but some guys can't shave more frequently than alternate days. It depends on your face and technique.

I can shave twice a day with my straights, if I need to be clean shaven for evening events. I couldn't initially, but now that the technique is down, no problem.

I can barely shave every other day even with excellent prep without my face burning like the fires of Hell. I couldn't imagine what my face would look like if I tried twice a day.

I have a thick, full beard too and I'm jealous of the guys who can shave every day or twice a day. My skin just can't handle it.

my old man used to shave twice a day, morning before work, then evening before going out to the pub, once a day is enough for me, i always thought of the twice a day shaving as something the older generation done.
