What's new

two questions about Semogue

How long does it usually take for a Semogue boar to reach its destination in the US? I've only received an order confirmation from Vintage Scent and nothing more.

Second, what's the best way to break in one of their boar brushes? Any particular technique?

It can take a couple weeks. I think I waited 8 or 9 in shipping, but for the shipping price and the distance that hardly felt unreasonable to me. As for the break in, my SOC took a couple months of daily lathering to break in, and its still improving months later! There are more experianced boar uses here who can give more experienced answered, but I lathered in hot NOT boiling water every day, letting it fully dry between uses. The wet/dry and heat will split the hairs eventually.

Same here, I waited about a week and a half. It took me another week to pick it up becasue it was shipped signature required and I live miles from the nearest post office with limited hours. I ordered a Semogue 2000 and couldn't be happier with it. I'm not too concerned with break-in because the tips were plenty soft right out of the box. If it's only going to get softer, I can't wait. The only problem was the disgusting smell. Honestly stomach churning. The good news about the odor is that it dissapates with only 2 or 3 latherings. I did this as test lathers because there was no way I was going to let that disgusting smell near my face. Repost when it comes in and let us know how you like it.

I've purchased from Vintage Scent three times in the past two months and the longest I waited to receive the brush was 12 days. I would expect if you ordered something today shipping would be a little longer because of the holidays.

With regards to breaking in a boar, I agree that regular use is the best. However, recently I started using a blow dryer and that seems to really be speeding up the splitting process. I don't use a dryer everyday, just every other use or so.

I have my third order in with Vintage Scents. Usual delivery time for me has been about three weeks. The hang up appears to be Customs. I could make a joke about it but it would probably get my name on a list and hold things up even longer.

Be patient with the brush. It will break in over time and only get better. Personally, I don't force the break in with hair dryers. Patience is your best friend to have with a boar.

10 days to Aus almost every order, but customs here don't sweat on these sort of items..

Break in is variable depending on brush, your water etc . The big, fat SOC took about 3 weeks, the 1305 2 weeks, with daily use. Daily use + an extra lather is probably the best way to do it. It's the thorough drying that get the tips to split though.

The 1460 is smaller and less dense, and I've had it 3 days and it feels 80% there already, with tips spitting already.

I'll probably end up handlathering every day if not used on face until broken in. I saw someone on the 'Tube use a hairbrush to comb the tips to split them.

I'm not concerned about the tips as I am about getting the most out of the brushes water absorption ability and lather 'holding'.

thanks everyone!!
