What's new

Two New Brushes...

Last week, I met MYCarver as he lives about 10 minutes from me and I had a couple straights that I had absolutely no use for. He offered up a couple of the handles that he carved and I gladly accepted.

The first is a Chubby that I set a 24mm TGN finest with extra hair at right around 48mm. The brush itself is just slightly shorter than a Grosvenor and it is a lather monster.

Next is a dogwood handle in which I used a 20mm UK boar knot. I gave it a light coat of Mahogany stain and finished it with 4 coats of a Tung Oil / Mineral Spirits / Spar Varnish mixture. I only lathered it up once to start getting the funk out, but it has a real nice feel to it. Here it is hanging next to my Progress.

And here they are together.

They really are much nicer looking in person, please don't hold my horrible photography against me. I was just excited to show them off.

Wow Dale, you did a great job. I'm so happy you were able to put them to good use.
You've created a "Lather Monster" eh? " It Lives Master,,it lives!!"

Like they said in the movie Dances With Wolves,,,, Good trade!

....and Thank You Darjeeling Express, I appreciate the compliment!

I do not mean to slight Dales enthusiasm for the brushes,, but it's not actually as yellow as it appears. It's more butterscotch than it shows in his photos. Depending on the lights used can affect the color values. It's closer to this color,,,, if I remember correctly!
His is the one on the right, 50mm handle height,, the one on the left 45mm handle with 50mm loft is gone.

Hi Mark,

I can't see the photo you attached, but I'm assuming the other handle is the one you made me as I recognize the taller 'Chubby'. EDIT - now I can see the photo and it definitely is my handle!

Just got the handle in the mail today and it is absolutely beautiful. It will probably be a couple weeks until I knot it though as I'm waiting for a couple restores in the mail before I place my order with TGN.

Nice to see the 24 Finest knot that was knotted into the taller chubby though. Looks like a lather monster.

Thanks again!

Joe

The flash definitely modified it to resemble a school bus yellow, but yours is much closer to the actual color. I can do many things well, but unfortunately taking pictures is not one of those skills. Regardless, both the handle and the knot are super comfy and I look forward to using it tomorrow.

Yes Joe, That's yours and Dales sitting side by side. From what I hear from a "test drive" it's making mountains of lather for him. I can't wait to hear how you guys like the brushes after they actually hit your faces.
Keep me posted.
Glad you like them.
