What's new

Two new brushes...yippee!

It has taken two months since I ordered my handles from Kim-son, but they arrived today and I had to put 22mm finest two bands from the nib in them. They also added an abalone inlay for free. These handles are beautiful and substantial. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow. In regards to the other brush, it is heading down south to my dad.

The pictures are somewhat from start to finish. We have the before with the two knots.
I found out the knots didn't fit quite right so I had to dremel the hole a little.
The hole was also too deep so I need to add some spacers, luckily nickles fit perfectly.:thumbup1:
And then we have the finished product.

More pictures.

First pictures, I lathered up some EJ Sandalwood SC.

Next we have the pre and post blooms.

All in all with a little over $50 per brush invested, I think it's money and time well spent.

WOW! Very nice. I love the bottom of the brush. The handles from Kim Son really are a good value, especially when you consider that they are made out of horn. I might get one and send it to Bernd at Shavemac.

Bear in mind that it took a little under 2 months to get mine from start to finish. They are fantastic though.

TY Ben! One more question, please...How much epoxy did you use to set knots? I'm looking for a guideline not a real amount per se : -) I'm trying to make sure I don't overflow glue onto hair when I build my brush...Thx!

You want it to cover the bottom of the knot but not overflow up into the knot. It's a guessing game at first, use a little and place the knot in, I am able to feel when the knot has made contact with the epoxy. When it has I let it sit and wait. I use Devcon 5 minute epoxy. Works great, and I know a couple of other people recommend it as well. Hope this helps.

Wow, I like. The abalone is a very nice touch. Looks great on ebony. Even the nickel spacer is cool. Well done!

Curious in doing something like this for myself. What is with the nickel spacer?

The hole for the knot was about 12 mm too deep so I needed to find a way to make the knot come in contact with something substantial. Before I have used cork but I found that a nickle was the perfect size. Problem solved.

Did you epoxy the nickel in first, or did the epoxy for the knot set both the nickel and the knot?
