What's new

two brush restorations

I was able to procure my grandfather's shaving brush and needless to say, it got some good use over the years. I wasn't sure if restoration was possible since it had some chipping around the base of the knot. I contacted Rudy Vey after seeing some of his work posted on here and decided to send it out to him so he could take a look. I also came across a real beaut of a butterscotch brush (Made Rite #750) from a local antique shop that I sent to him as well.

By the time I was able to respond to his email saying he received the brushes, he had already removed the knots! He gave me some choices of replacement knots and I selected the overstuffed finest for the butterscotch and silvertip for my grandfather's. He sent a picture showing this, as well as the opposite since he thought they matched the handles better. He was right, it was perfect that way.

I came into work this morning and they were waiting for me. Man they came out great! He even sent a tube of Arko shaving cream as a bonus. Nothing could be done about the chipping, but I think it gives the brush some character. I can't say enough about what a pleasure it was doing business with Rudy. He was super quick and very helpful.

I attached some before pics as well as one of Rudy's pics of the brushes before he glued in the knots.

Thanks again, Rudy!

I think no matter what the cost,to be able to salvage your grandfathers brush, and to know that he used it for many years, is priceless.....

Those are just beautiful. Superb work by Rudy, as always. It's great that you can use your grandfather's brush and of course your new butterscotch .
