Tulip2/ Tulip3 mmmmm?

Gentlemen,
I am considering a Simpson's Tulip in 2-Band and am still a little unsure as to which appeals to me more; Size 2 or Size 3. Looking at the dimensions of the brushes on TheSuperiorShave I am wondering if perhaps the Tulip 2 (22mm knot, 49mm loft) might be more suitable for me than the Tulip 3 (24mm/55mm).
The idea of the Tulip 3 really grabs me but I am wondering if it may feel considerably softer than and exhibit less backbone than the Tulip 2.
My preference is for a brush with plenty of backbone (I have a Chubby2 in 2-Band, an Emperor 1 in 2-Band and a B+B Eagle among others) and was hoping that some owners may be able to help with thoughts and opinions on the Tulips.

The T2 in two band is not in the same league as the Eagle as far as backbone goes. When I use the T2, I find that it has a lot more give and splay to it. Case in point, during the Cade challenge, I have used both the T2 and SR 3824. The T2 did not have as much backbone as the SR brush, and in my hands produced an inferior lather. Check out brianw's Simpson Throwdown thread for a detailed comparison of the T2 with several other Simpsons.

I use a Somerset 2-band T2 and like it a lot. Great face lathering, the short loft makes for a scrubby but not rough brush. I would guess that the T3 is quite a bit less scrubby.

"Got Shoes?"
Is the Tulip 3 in two-band or is it just Simpson's super grade hair?

I have the Tulip 2 two-band and had the Tulip 3 in the regular Super-grade Simpson hair.

If you are looking for backbone then steer clear of the T3. The T3 is a very soft, very luxurious brush but backbone is not a word I would use to describe it. I like a brush with backbone as well which is why I still have the T2 but the T3 went the way of the BST.

I have the T2 and a Eagle it's not... Great backbone and a superb all around brush tho. I don't know anything about the T3, but i just think it may be to "squishy"

David,
I had a Tulip 2 in 2-band, and compared to the E1 you now have..the T2 will have a lot less back-bone due to the loft size.

If you are set on Tulip in 2-band, and want a stiff/compact knot...I would look for a Tulip1, or work with a vendor that can cherry pick a short lofted T2.

with that said, the T2 is a great brush and have the best handle ever.

Thank you all for the thoughts. I guess that this has reinforced my idea that although the T3 is a gorgeous brush, it is not really my kind of thing. Now to find the right T2. :thumbup1:
Thanks again!
