Tuckaway with a NEW head?

Just picked up a gold Gillette with blade box, no box, that I am not sure what it is. I don't have a camera but maybe someone can figure out what it is from my description:

- Tuckaway or Lady Gillete handle is my guess- short gold threaded handle with the impressed diamond checkering and a short knurled knob at the end
- A long-comb NEW head with the Gillette logo and "Made in U.S.A." on one side of bottom of the head
- Other side of the bottom of the head has "Pat. No 1815745" "Pat. No. 1858316" "Reissue Pat. No. 17567"

This is my first open comb and it is a hefty little thing, looking forward to trying it. If anyone has any idea what model this is and a rough guess on age I would appreciate it.

auk1124, sorry to go off subject...

Achim, do you know why I suddenly can't see any of the text on your website? All pics are there but no text. Same thing on both of my computers. Help!

Sorry, that´s a question of your browser. You can only see all informations with Internet Explorer

Text? There's text?? I nearly never use IE. Always Firefox. I'd been looking at this wonderful web site for two or more months now, wondering "why doesn't he add some text to these pages"?. And so there is. Added to my limited favorites list on IE.

Now back to the question at hand, I've never seen that combination. But I think Mr-razor has already given the best available answer.

I know only silver looking Norfolk´s. I believe that the only gold one with Tuckaway handle is the Milady

I have a Gold one made in Canada.

THERE'S TEXT!!!!!

(...now - to overcome my reluctance to use IE....)

You should be able to see the text in any browser if you use your mouse to highlight the page, or just hit 'select all' in your menu options under 'edit'.

Holy cow. There is text on Achim's site? Geez, that makes things a little easier. Added to the "Open in IE" memory slot. You may want to check on why text doesn't render outside of IE though...

You can see the text using firefox if you "select all".

thanks. I don´t know how it looks in the english FireFox, but that´s the change option in the german FF:

sorry the picture is rubbish.

That is my handle without a doubt but mine has the long comb head with the impressed slot running down the middle of the base of the head. Also, my blade box looks different than yours - mine is totally smooth.

Of course with no box and no idea of the provenance of my set it is quite possible I have myself a mishmash of various parts...

After looking at the thing closer I believe I have myself a Frankenrazor. My razor's head has a wear pattern in the base that does not match up at all with the Tuckaway handle. In fact the Tuckaway handle will not screw all the way flush with the base of the head - the ridges from the slot running down the middle hold the handle off the base.

Ah well, such are the joys of ebay.

Got it. To get that same view in the English FireFox, click on "view", then scroll down to Page style and click it. You'll see a blue ball (at lest on my Vista powered machine) by "Basic Page Style". Click on "No Style" above that, and you'll get the view shown, with the text (and without "bluing out" all the pics like you get with "select all"). :thumbup1:
