Tryed to stay away

So I got sucked into yet another part of B&B and I would like to start out trying some dip nibs and I currently found a lot of pens, here are some of the following names: They have names like HUNT, AMERICAN PENCIL, BRAUSE, ESTERBROOK, ALVIN, WILLIAM MITCHELL, FABER. they are very used most of the nibs look clean and without cracks. So my question to you is what should I look for in beginner nibs/pens and what should I stay away from? and what is considered inexpensive and expensive when it comes to nibs?

Mellow, Vintage stuff can hide some very small problems, if you are okay taking a risk on the lot and it isnt mch money shoot. For starting out though you may want to head on over to this place

Paperinkarts.com

You can get a nib holder for just over a buck, and a wide range of nibs from a lot of guys to try out, also the clearance section has some inks you can pick up cheap, 20 bucks their will get you a lot of things to help you find out what you like and what you dont and begin to hone your craft. after doing that you may find you have a better eye for what you arwe looking for when looking into online website or auctions and the like

So just for fun I filled up a cart for 20 bucks like you said, do you think the manuscript natural wood holder could hold any nib on their website?

If the nibs are used, often they are scratchy because the coating has been taken off and they've rusted. There is no tipping, the nibs are steel, and the ink is often acidic.

Nice new Gillott nibs are under $1. Like James says, you'll need to determine what kind of writing you will be doing and buy your nibs accordingly. Fine flexible tips for Copperplate and Spencerian, broad italics for calligraphy, etc. I looked for the flexible ones when I used them, although I notice there are no descriptions in the link given above.

i see do you find cons with using copper or silver metal for your nibs it seems like they will both be amazing?
