Today I was at the AOS store at the mall, and I overheard the sales person say to a customer, "Badger hair is naturally bacteria resistant." So, truth or fiction? I really have no idea. What do you say?

Seems the salespeople in AOS really love to say whatever they can to persuade you to buy something, whether it's a baldfaced lie or not.

AOS is notorious for hiring people that have no idea, or knowledge, about the products being sold.

Shows it again....the best thing of AoS is their soaps. Their sales people have no clue about what they sell.

True.

In my opinion bacteria cannot affect a brush. I do not know why a brush would lose hair or get damaged if bacterial growth gets out of control. Never heard of a brush getting "sick" because of a bacterial infection.
Ha...

AoS people... S for Smart!

Fiction. Bacteria does not discriminate between species of hair. Any brush that is improperly cared for will potentially breed bacteria - even badger hair. Be wary of other myths that AoS may try and spin - for example, 'AoS badger is specially formulated with a trademarked process that makes it bacteriostatic' or 'In fact, if you brush your teeth with these brushes, you will be less prone to plaque buildup'

Shark skin stops bacteria from forming a biofilm just by having a special microscopic pattern on the surface. This has been mimicked in a man-made material called Sharklet.

So maybe badger hair has similar properties. Hairs are covered in scales like shark skin is.

I'm not sure that AoS would know about this though.

Anything organic is prone to decay. Decay is generally caused by mold and microbes. Some things take longer to decay than others. Perhaps Boar hair takes longer to decay than Badger?
I always take the advice of salespeople with a grain of salt.
