Trumpers Skin Food is over rated

Preface: YMMV

Its not all that great though. It does what its supposed to do, and being a glycerin based AS, it sinks right into the skin and does a good job sealing it. But for $8.00 you can get a rosewater and glycerin bottle at Wholefoods and it does the exact same thing! Might even work better too. I've used the Lime and Sandalwood skin food and I think they are highly over rated and underwhelming. The Sandalwood smells like a home air freshner IMO.

Their shaving creams, and soaps, area different story, and in my opinion worth every penny. No bubbles abound in the lather with any Trumpers product I've used.

I'm not trying to bash the brand, but after hearing all the rant and rave about skin food, and dropping $40.00, its not all its hyped up to be. Does anyone else share this view? I know this view point won't win me many fans, but had to throw it out there. Way too many people drinking the skin food koolaid when there are better, more cost effective products out there.

NO WAY!!
Best, or atleast one of the best, a/s balm type thing i've ever tried.
Limes is just fab!!
Great fragrance, absorbs quickly, non-greasy. OK so it's expensive but sometimes, you pay for what you get, and this is top notch imo.

I'm a fan of the sandalwood, but not in the Summer. I'll use it in the Winter when the humidity is way down. Summer is for splashes.

Funny, I think it's the loveliest sandalwood scent around. I don't think it feels as good on the skin as other balms, so in that sense it seems over-rated to me.

I love my Trumper's skin food...Lime & sandalwood. I use them daily...worth every penny (got the 500 ml bottle too). I also follow that with Trumper's moisturizer.

Their cremes are fabulous too...alone, in superlather or even uberlather

Cheers,
Robert

Ingredients are ingredients. Whether it's Trumpers or any other premium brand, you are not paying for the ingredients, you are paying for the brand and the prestige. There is no genie at these companies who adds a magic potion to the product. It's all chemistry.

People overspend willingly and I'm all for it if that's what they want to do.

To clarify, what I mean by it's all chemistry is that if the ingredients are roughtly the same, and in the same order, then you have basically the same product.

Now scents, that is another thing. They are difficult to duplicate precisely and I can certainly see why some people will shell out for a certain scent. I would.

Oh well, this stuff is supposed to be fun as well as functional, so have fun with it.

Yes, but have you tasted it yet? There's a reason they call it food.

Wait, why do I suddenly smell colors? And my third foot is looking a bit superflous....

I tired all 3 and ended up selling them off on the for sale forum. I liked the Coral Skin Food the best out of the 3. I used it as a pre shave, not as an aftershave. I also tried adding a drop to my lather (GFT Violet) and it added more slickness to the lather.
I can see how some guys love this stuff but wasnt for me.

I think the Coral and Limes smell fabulous, and I'm all for paying premium dollar for premium product. I just don't think the high price adds any more value than a cool looking bottle in my bathroom. The gold cap rules :thumbup1:

In terms of the sandalwood, I'd have to say AoS is the most authentic sandalwood scent my olfactory has ever gotten its...errr...hands on.

Obviously, YMMV.

Look for an almost full bottle of Coral skin food in the shaving mall pretty soon.

Scents are a highly subjective matter, so there's no point in arguing about them (I do love the scent of skin food in all its flavours, FWIW). As for the efficacy of the products, well, I find them to be very efficacious indeed - they soothe and "seal" the skin better than any product I've tried (although I will admit that they really shine when used in tandem with another product - I start with a strong alcohol-based splash, and finish off with a drop of skin food applied with wet hands).

Maybe one of the English users can chime in here, but I don't think the stuff is necessarily all that expensive either - perhaps you US gents are simply not accustomed to the pain of doing business with someone whose currency is stronger than your own?

Agreed on Skin Food being overrated. I got samples of the Lime and Coral last winter and neither were very moisturizing. Nivea did a much better job.

I hated the stuff! It was glycerin with a scent.

I don't mind some glycerin in a product as it has good qualities but this was nothing more than a bottle of ordinary glycerin with added scent! I could make my own 500mL bottle for about $8!

It's peculiar for me; I don't find it exceedingly moisturizing, so I think Summer use - but it's easy to over-apply and get greasy, which doesn't bode well in warmer months especially. So, I just go with stuff that works a little better for me. But, you know, YMMV and whatnot.
