Trumper's Fans: Violet?

Hello Gentlemen,

I've used Trumper's soaps in various scents over the years (almond, lime, coconut, rose), and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of a puck of the Violet flavour - I really enjoyed the scent and performance of the violet cream that I received in a sample a while back. In any case, I noticed that there are no reviews up for the violet soap, so I was wondering if anyone has used it, and what your impressions were?

Like you, I have use the creme and love it (some think it has too much coloring to be or feel real). Anyways, I can only imagine what the soap will be like. Combine the two for an impressive superlather.

Let me know what you think once you decide to get it. :thumbup1:

ditto.

The violet cream is awesome. I've heard the refomulated soaps are not too good though. I love the scent and the lather of the cream. I hope you enjoy the soap.

In my opinion it's the best of the bunch. I guess I haven't tried coconut, but I've tried the other four. The two that I keep using are violet and sandalwood. limes had great lather, but the scent wasn't for me. The violet soap is fresh and earthy. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Well, it arrived this afternoon... first off, the scent is absolutely beautiful - it's a deep, earthy floral scent with this kind of "old world" quality that reminds me very strongly of something from childhood, which I haven't been able to put my finger on yet. I've sampled all of GFT's soaps now with the exception of Sandalwood, and my favourite scent has always been almond - I have to say that I like this one at least as much as the almond, and if it agrees with my skin, then it will be my new favourite.

I find the scent of the soap to be superior to the cream (which is generally my experience with GFT, although the rose cream is great), and it also appears to have a less intense dose of colouring in it, so it looks like it's a winner on all fronts!

Alas, I first have to finish the lime soap that I'm currently busy with before I can lather it up as I've only ever had one of the wooden bowls from Trumper's which I've just refilled over the years (I've had it for the better part of 15 years now, and it's still going strong - guys who have trouble justifying the cost of soaps in bowls should take note). It's amazing how those last few scraps of soap can seem to last for months...

Violet is my personal favorite of all the Trumpers soaps. I wish they would make the GFT in a soap but unfortunately it only comes in the cream. I prefer soaps over the cream but don't let that say much as the creams are awesome as well.
As for the reformulation, I have not found that Trumpers performance is lacking or that it changed any. It still one of the best soaps on the market today.

Great soap. It lathers easily, and I get great shaves with it. My wife asks me to whip some up for her legs. She also loves the scent.

And possibly even the best among veggie soaps.

Trumpers is one of the few companies that did a good job with their reformulation.

I have the Violet soap and been using it for about a month now on and off. I dont mind the scent and it does grow on you but it is definately an "acquired" smell. I have the Sandalwood and Limes creams on the way, kinda wish I had ordered soap but oh well. Out of what I have smelled so far with Trumpers the Limes is my fav scent.

I also enjoy the Trumper's Violet soap, although I'm more of a cream guy. The violet is a really natural, summery scent

I've used both the cream and the soap and they are great! I have a puck in the den and a spare puck in storage. :thumbup1:

I've got Trumper's Rose and Violet soaps. The Rose is the tallow version and the Violet's not, but they perform just about the same. They're excellent, great fragrances and world class perfomance in terms of lathering and shaving.

I had the same experience and in my case I figured it out. It was this mint candy I use to buy. Smells EXACTLY like this soap. I love the scent and while I don't think it provides a lather with the cushion AOS does, it is very slick and gives me great shaves. IMHO better than the cream.

It's my favorite Trumpers scent and my favorite soap. It goes great with the Trumpers Ajaccio Violets (used as aftershave & cologne, although the scent is quite different) and Trumpers Eucris Hairdressing.

I have several Trumper soaps including the Violet and they are all solid performers. I have owned some of the old tallow-based Trumper soaps and, honestly, can't tell much difference between the two. You should really like the soap and its performance.

PARMA VIOLETS perhaps? A purple-ish sweet that came in the form of a small tablet and was packaged about 10 to a pack and wrapped in celophane with the ends twisted?

IRC it was manufactured by MATTLOW-SWIZZELS. Or it was here in the UK. :tongue_sm

I have Violet, Sandalwood and Rose. Of these three, Violet is the most understated scent. The scent is unique but very mellow. YMMV. It's a great performer. I get a bit of mild irritation from the Sandalwood from time to time as I have sensitive skin but never with the violet. It was my first hard soap and will always be in my rotation.

A plus 1 to not getting hung up about tallow vs. non tallow formulation with Trumper. I've used both and the difference is sleight.

My experience as well. I have heard gents complain that the sky is falling but my experience is opposite.
