Trumpers creams

Hi guys, just a question on Trumpers creams, I got a sample pack delivered today, and before I use any of them, I wanted to ask what should I expect? What's the quality like? Are they moisturising/lubricating/protecting/whatever? Are they thirsty and so on?

Thought I may aswell offer my opinions on the smells of the creams (they've not been used, just opened and sniffed) so that you guys perhaps could give me some recommendations for future creams to get/to stay away from?

Creams I liked:

Extract of limes: fresh, clean, citrussy, sweet, massive fan of this smell.

Sandalwood: warm (in as much as something can smell "warm"), spicy, woody. Reminds me of my university philosophy library. A slightly unpleasant sharp note that isn't present in the Sandalwood skin food sample I got (which I love the smell of, seems to have the warm spicy woody characteristics of the cream, with a fresh sweetness replacing the unpleasant sharp note I picked up in the cream). I hope that unpleasant note disappears during shaving

Spanish Leather: Spicy (a darker spice than the sandalwood if that makes sense?), leathery, soapy. Like this very much, quite a mild scent from just sniffing it.

Creams I did not like:

Eucris: Hated this, overbearing, almost artificial green scent to it, reminds me for some reason of old women who spray themselves with too much perfume

GFT: Horribly sharp and bitter, can't really say much else

Rose: Meh. I'm not a fan of Rose scents so knew I wouldn't like it. It's tolerable, unlike the other two, but it's not something I'd put on my face unless I had no soap/cream left.

So yeah, what are your opinions on the performance of Trumpers creams and do you have any recommendations as to what I should go for/stay away from from other brands in future?

Oh yeah, also, if anyone (would have to be UK due to postage, sorry) wants the remainder of my sample pack, PM me letting me know and I'll post it off to you.

The stuff that I'll send will be:

Cream samples: Rose, GFT, Eucris

Fragrance samples: Skye, Spanish Leather, Wild Fern, GFT

Skin Food sample: Coral.

Trumper makes some fine cream. I believe the quality is consistent through the line, so you can select the smell you like.

You may well find your opinion of the GFT changes when you actually make lather. It could be quite different than sticking your nose in the container. I share your opinion of Eucris, but some people really like that smell.

You might enjoy a T&Hill sample pack as well.

The best lime (IMHO) for smell and performance is Castle Forbes.

They are all pretty good but the one stand out for me is the coconut oil cream. It is head and shoulders above the rest of them IMHO

Glad you're asking this as I have been reevaluating Trumper against my other creams, specifically against TOBS. I've been using the Rose and the Almond. I have the Lime but not used it yet. My experience is that they are very good creams. Lather easily and produce a soft, silky lather. Pleasant to shave with too. Seem to cushion well and leave a good feel on your face at the end. So you should like them, if you like the smell. The lather should be enough for a 3-pass shave but not much more. However, as against TOBS they are not quite as good. For TOBS, the same amount of cream produces a larger amount of lather and is a little better at cushioning. On a scale of 5, with 5 being the best I would put Trumper as a 4 with TOBS as a 5. So you should expect a very good experience but not top of the polls. BTW I got 3 shaves from each of my samples of Trumpers but I am able to get at least 4 from the TOBS samples and both are the same size.

I can't offer advice on the smells, to me it is entirely a matter of personal preference but I do like the smell of the lime.

Cheers

I find them all to shave very well and are non-drying. The eucris reminds me of TOBS avocado, as it is a little thicker.

After reading I think I will order the sample pack, see what all the fuss is about and how they compare to my T&H creams..

Tried the Sandalwood sample this evening, the first one I've tried so far, must say I'm impressed. I loaded up with an Astra SP in my Merkur 34C, never used Astra's before so went gently, and as my face was already irritated from other means, I only did a 2 pass shave, so it wasn't the closest shave I've had, but it was respectable. What impressed me the most though was how moisturised my face feels. My face and neck were already pretty irritated, and my skin actually feels calmer and less irritated. If this is how I can expect my skin to feel after using Trumpers cream, I can definitely see myself purchasing some full tubs in the new year.

I'm not enamoured on the Sandalwood scent when it's lathered (which is odd because I really like the sandalwood skin food smell), but it gives way to soapiness once applied to the face and the scent doesn't linger at all.

I had and used the Coconut Oil by Trumper and it was really good, made a great lather and all that but I piffed it since the scent was so light it was kinda blah for me. Dunno about the other scents, I'd try the sandalwood when I get the cash to dish out for a tub just to see. Great creams though!

Funny, I like the scents of Eucris and Rose a lot, but can't cope with Sandalwood and Spanish Leather. In regards to performance, I like Trumper creams better than TOBS but less than DRH and T&H.
