Truefitt 1805 Vs. Trafalger

I just sampled Trufitt & Hill's two top selling colognes, 1805 and Trafalger and was very surprised at the experience. To me 1805 was just another floral scent, nothing spectacular and a bit feminine if you ask me. On the other hand I thought Trafalger was great. Like a walk through the deep woods in the morning, very fresh, bracing and masculine. I wonder if anyone else agrees with me.

To my nose 1805 is a marine scent. I don't smell floral at all. It is simlilar to Aqua di Gio.

I was expecting a marine scent, from what I've read about it. When I sampled it at the store, however. I didn't get a marine sensation . . and said to the store-person "Is this supposed to be a marine scent?" And he said "No, 1805 is more of a floral". I took another whif and . . . yes indeed it was floral. It was right out of the red 1805 bottle so I know it was the right stuff. It's funny how scents can strike different people in different ways.

That's strange. I had a bottle a few years ago and it smelled marine to me. I don't like these type of scents so I may be biased.

Several hours have past and I just went and took a whiff of the sample again and now I do pick up some marine notes. I think the stuff mellowed out and evolved a bit.

1805 was overhwelmingly marine to me. Marine scents give me a headache and consequently I had to wash it off after about 20 minutes. Uck. Trafalgar, though, I loved. Just got a bottle off the BST and am very happy with the score!

Very different scents and I like them both. 1805 is definitely marine for me...very fresh and bright smelling. I also smell melons. Trafalgar is totally different (as you've noted) and does smell like a forest. There is something in the opening though that strikes me as East Indian cooking (cumin maybe?) that I sometimes get and other times don't. It's the only part about Trafalgar I don't like. I have also found both to be fairly long-lived on me.
