Triple Play of Aftershave, Cologne and Deodorant

For the most part I use witch hazel, aftershave and a general purpose underarm deodorant after my shave. However I wondered if any B&B members use all three of the same brand & type of aftershave, cologne and deodorant. I was thinking of trying something like this for those special after work and weekend occasions. If so what are some of your suggestions.

Thanks

I have done it in the past with Issey Miyake. I think it's a fine idea if you want to try it, but since I use such a wide variety of scents, I wouldn't do it again. I found the Miyake deodorant to be seriously lacking.

I'm more into a body wash/shampoo matched to scent.

Brute AS and EDC

Tabac AS and EDC

Those are about the only scents that I double barrel. I haven't found anything that blends well with Tabac (other than more Tabac)

Yes. Tabac...Tabac...Tabac. Also, Speick...Speick...Speick.

Hmmm... I like the idea of Tabac.

I use the shave soap and yes I like the scent.

Furthermore, you can go bath soap, shave soap, aftershave, cologne and finally deodorant.

Heck, they even have a hair cream!

Just hope the ladies like it.:biggrin1:

I've done it for a couple of years before I started getting back into the fragrance game. Back then I had settled on 3 signature scents, D&G Pour Homme (original version), Chanel Allure Homme and Boss No. 6 Bottled.

I then used deodorant, shower gel, after shave and Eau de Toilette from the same fragrance - and it lasted all day on me.

But then I started collecting fragrances, and with a collection of at some point 375 fragrances, it would be impossible & crazy expensive to also have the shower gel, after shave and deo of the same frag, so I stopped layering them.

One huge problem was also, that I found out that even though some company makes a great fragrances, they not always make effective deodorants - subsequently I noticed that Chanel Allure Homme Deo stick and spray actyally caused me to stink of sweat on humid days or on days where I had worked for 10-12 hours. Same with the Boss deodorant products.

This also turned me in the direction of trying to find the perfect protective neutral scent free deodorant that just worked all day and wouldn't interfere with my fragrance of the day.
So now I use my preferred neutral scent free deodorant stick followed by my preferred scent free neutral deodorant spray - then apply my fragrance of the day and I never smell sweaty even after 12-14 hour work days in hot weather. NEVER EVER !

This is why I don't buy the more expensive designer and niche deodorant products anymore - they are overpriced and VERY often don't work on me, meaning I will smell sweaty if I use them = I would feel like a complete idiot purchasing these products, when I found that what protects me best and just works is a $6 priced Sanex Deodorant spray and a $5 priced Nivea deodorant stick :biggrin1:
I apply the deo stick first, then the deo spray = 24 hour anti-sweat protection on my skin

In the shower I use 4 different wonderful shower gels, 2 very expensive ones and 2 quite cheap ones.......also found that shower gels from the designer and niche houses more often than not were not that great made either......

Simpson make great brushes - does that mean they also would make great DE blades, if they started doing that - NO!
Edwin Jagger make great DE razors - does that mean they also would make great straight razors if they started doing that - NO!

You get my point :wink1:

This endeavor can become quickly expensive.

Many aftershaves are fairly short lived, so of the three I would say matching your aftershave is of the least importance. Shower soap/ body wash, and shaving cream/ shaving soap are even less important yet, as their scent won't hang around for more than 5 minutes.

As already mentioned, of the widely available products this is easily accomplished with Old Spice, and Brut.

Avon also offers most of their men's scents in a deodorant, aftershave balm, and cologne.

In my local Meijer (midwest competitor to Wal-Mart) I have also seen English Leather, and Stetson deodorant.

I sometimes do, but not those precise items (and I wouldn't use the same AS and cologne combined). I have the following combos...

Old Spice - AS, deodorant, shaving cream
Tabac - AS, deodorant, shaving cream
Brut - AS, deodorant
Jovan Musk - AS, deodorant
Azzaro PH - EdT, deodorant

I typically pair aftershave splashes and edts of the same company and scent. Don't go for the deoderant for much the same reasons as Claus. Not sure of their effectiveness, and feel no need if I use an edt over a basically unscented deoderant. Besides the brands listed above, believe Calvin Klein also makes/made a deoderant in some of their "flavors", and think some of the other fragrance houses do as well.

Exactly. I found with the handful I tried they smelled nicely of the scent upon application, but several hours into wearing lost their ability to control odor. One exception was the Polo Antipersperant which I wore exclusively for years. Believe it is discontinued.

I prefer a lot of variety with my frags, but I don't with my A/S or my deodorant. I typically try to match my A/S to my EdT, but if I don't have a good match, I roll with the trusty AoS unscented balm. A squirt or two of your scent of the day in the palm of your hand mixed of a dab of unscented balm = any scent of aftershave you like. I do the same with deodorant. I'm a big, big fan of the Clinique Skin Supplies for Men unscented antiperspirant-deo stick. It goes with everything!

Thanks for the replies. Some great suggestions from using Tabac, Arlington etc. Thinking it over and reading these posts it seems that deodorants may be overkill. A simple unscented antiperspirant may be the best when using cologne. So it looks like just aftershave and cologne will do for those special occasions. Just one other thing, can anyone recommend a good sandalwood aftershave and cologne? Thanks

Aftershave: DR Harris Sandalwood. It has a lot of legs, with the scent sticking around for a good 6 hours.

Cologne: Arden for Men Sandalwood. Dates back to 1957, and is still sold today, so you know it has to be good!!

Edit: the Arden Sandalwood appears to be a discontinued fragrance. I wasn't aware of that. Boo. :thumbdown

Definitely agree. Trying to match the deodorant is just too much. There's quite a few good unscented deodorants out there:

Higher End: Clinique Skin Supplies, Lab Series
Lower End: Mitchum, Tom of Maine, Arm & Hammer

Then there's the crystal deodorant and the alum block, but I can't quite wrap my head around rubbing a rock around in my pits... :) Some swear by it though.

I can't really recommend any sandalwood splashes as I've never used one, but as for an EdT: AoS Sandalwood or MPG Santal Noble with the latter being the best IMO, but only the AoS has a "matching" A/S and it's a balm rather than a splash.
