What's new

Tried whitch hazel...

i wanted a good splash to use on days when i don't want to smell like musgo real or aramis.

This stuff is great!

People complain about the smell, really it just smells like bottom shelf tequlia. Which allmost made me sick because of the memories it brought back. But it lasts for a second or two.

I think you put this in the wrong forum, but I agree that witchhazel makes a nice aftershave. I mix in a little aloe vera gel and a couple of drops of glycerin to make an even better solution.

Try posting this in the Aftershave subforum instead of the Shaving Soap subforum.:thumbup1:

if you don't care for the smell, switch to thayers. their scented witch hazel is outstanding. i use the cucumber myself and it's fantastic for summer days

I too love witch hazel. It cleanses your pores and makes after shave burn less. Plus, the storebrand is dirt cheap, and the smell grows on you (I love it now).

My grandmother always had me put witch hazel on mosquito bites. So the scent for me brings memories of childhood and summer.

there is aloe and witch hazel in musgo real so if i want some moisturizing properties i use that it works very well. just used it for the first time this week and no wlove musgo real.

Yep. Musgo Real ASL and ASB contain Witch Hazel extract, described as Hamamelis Virginiana.
Speick ASL and ASB and Proraso ASL and ASB also contain Witch Hazel.

Aloe vera gel (like for sunburns?) will dissolve? Witch hazel with aloe and glycerin sounds like a great idea.

Yep. Just shake it up a little everyday before you put it on. You can also add essential oils if you want to have a better scent, but lately I've just been using it straight.

Thayers makes great stuff...they have two new products: 1) cucumber and 2) peach (I think)

I use the lavender (no alcohol) everyday, right after my cold water rinse

Cheers,
Robert

That's exactly the one that I've ordered from iherb.com! The toner with lavender and aloe vera!
Never tried Witch Hazel before... that thing is impossible to find here in Europe. But it seems an excellent product.

So we've got a cross over thread. I'm not complaining. The witch hazel aroma definitely has "remembrances of things past" for me too. Though I too swear by Thayers, one of my oldest memories is the bottle of Dickinson's Witch Hazel in our medicine closet.

The name game here gets a little hairy. Hamamelis Virginiana is the plant from which what is traditionally called Witch Hazel is made. Witch Hazel is also a common name for the plant. So, when somebody is taking about Witch Hazel, it's not always obvious if they mean either

a) The plant
b) An extract of the plant
c) The astringent known as Witch Hazel

Thayers is actually a concoction containing an extract of the plant. Store-brand "Witch Hazel" or Dickinson's is the age-old recipe for Witch Hazel the astringent. You'll know it by its 14% alcohol content and... "earthy"... smell.

I use Thayers Alcohol free Witch Hazel and i love it.
It seems to close up my weepers (they do happen sometimes).

the smell dissipates pretty quickly.

Here in Europe, witch Hazel is hard to find. It is simply non-existent.

I ordered Thayer's witch hazel from iherb.com. They have good prices for this stuff and above all, a fair shipping fee for Europe.

Plus, if you use a coupon code or referral code, it gives $5 off to every new customer.
Feel free to use this one, gentlemen: EMA957.
