Tried the Gillette Slim

Got it off eBay, cleaned and sanitized, and shaved with this one for the first time today. It is my first TTO and my first adjustable razor. Very pleased with the weight and the smoothness of the shave, and I will be experimenting with the settings (less aggressive on the neck, for example). I am steering clear of the Fat Boy for now, based on the costs and the fact that some of em look like Slims in the Fat Boy box, but the adjustable was a greatmdiscovery for me and I wanted to share it.

The other discovery I made today is that the wife used the attractive looking but simple Gillette Tech I got her, but I had to give her a block of instruction (my backup brush was wet, soapy, and bristles up when I came in tomthe bathroom after my run). Clearly, I must get her a brush so she doesn't ruin mine!

I got a Slim not too long ago and really like it as well. On its milder settings, it provides a smoother and more comfortable shave than my EJ DE89. Glad you're enjoying yours too!

I have two Slims and one FB, the Slims are my favorite razors bar none. I hope you enjoy shaving with it as much as I do with mine!

for me the slim is a better shaver than the fatboy, it might not be as iconic as the fb but its a great razor for someone starting out with a tto adjustable, and they cost less.

Those are some excellent razors! The Slim, and the Tech, are by far my two favorite vintage razors. Enjoy them, it doesn't get much better than that. :)

A Slim was my second razor. I don't use it much now, but it's a fine shaver. I just happen to prefer my Senator these days. Keep experimenting and have fun!

Only been learning DE for a few weeks, but got hold of a birth year/quarter slim last week; used it 3 times so far & am seriously impressed. Well made, feels good in the hand, nice weight & a pleasure to use.

I feel your pain, truly I do...

I used my Slim for the first time today as well. I got a very DFS + shave. So far the only razor I've not had any success with is the Merkur Futur.

My first DE was a Fat Boy but I've found that for me, the Slim is a much better shaver. I also really like Techs, especially for head shaves.

I have a surplus of razors due to RAD and have been trying to talk my GF into giving it go and she has expressed interest but hasn't taken the plunge yet. If she does, I'll be sure to advise her on proper brush care and maintenance.

I am in t he market for a slim now. I keep an eye out on here ane ebay if one comes up at a good price. Glad to hear you like it, something to look forward to

I prefer my shave using a slim as opposed to the FB, but I must admit that the fatboy has the slim beaten in the looks department.

Count me in as a Slim fan.*

For me it's one of those razors that seems to have a magical combination of geometry and weight that makes it pop as a razor. I know that I'm always going to get a good shave when I pick up the Slim. Although it's not as sexy as the massive Fat Boy, it is like the Model T of razors, plain and simple and runs well forever.

* the word "Slim" in this post, and all of my posts refers to the fantastic Gillette Slim razor, not your humble, but plump correspondent. (posted at the request of family members lurking in the background during my quality B&B time.) :biggrin1:

My Slim is from 1966 and I like him. He is gentle but could be more thorough. But for that I have my Futur.

I am posting here because I'm still too new to the forum to post in the BST but I didn't find anything there that I could reply to. I am looking to try out a Slim Adjustable... Ebay frustrates me, since they have that new "max bid" thing it makes it difficult to get anything in those final seconds for a good price...

Does anyone know a good place that I can find one for cheap?

**I am not asking to but sell or trade**
