Tried something new with my HD

In the pamphlet on this thread: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=92366 (Gillette NEW pamphlet) there is a suggestion to open the razor up 1/16th of a turn for a close shave. I didn't have a NEW loaded, so I decided to give it a shot with my HD.

The results were very good. 3 pass WTG, XTG, XTG (1/16th) with BBS results and very little irritation. It absolutely embarrassed my Fatboy which I used yesterday with the same blade (4th shave on a "Swede").

Give it a try if you are in the mood to experiment.

i guess it must straighten the bade slightly and make the gap larger , therefor making it more aggressive,

I held the razor up to the light and tried out opening the razor. I can see the blades push out slightly in a way very similar to cranking up a progress/fatboy/slim/etc...

I could feel a bit more blade as well when I was doing the pass.

You should be able to do this with Gillette Techs as well. Just about any DE razor that clamps the blade between upper and lower pieces (as opposed to TTO silo doors).

I've been seeing this suggestion, and will have to give it a try, too. Sounded kinda scary at first, but it doesn't sound like the blade will be so loose as to move around, but will still be tight with a liitle more of the blade exposed.

There was still plenty of tension to hold the blade in place.
