Trident maple

Made a few and keep forgetting to post them up. Had to take some larger limbs off of a trident maple I planted about 17 years ago. Took the opportunity to knock a few things out on the lathe including this handle.

Yes. Will see how it dries. I have cut a few things from it prior and no checking or major change. So far…

I almost dyed it. Have quite a bit of the maple so may mix up some aniline dyes and goof around. This one is only bored at ⅞” so 20-22mm knot. I don’t normally get knots smaller than 24mm so not sure if I well ever use it or not.

Got to be careful with that stuff - dyes everything that looks at it hard

Correction: not rosewood dye, it was a walnut. The blue is kind of weird and holographic with the grain in person. Will be interesting to see with CA finish later

I prefer the aesthetic of a nice turned wood handle to ones in other materials eg resin.
