Treating Razor Burn

Hello everyone. I changed soaps from VDH to Irish Moos shave stick. My razor, blades, and brush are the same. I have a mild case or razor burn and my wife says my face is a bit red. How do I treat it? I am away from my house and house sitting with my wife for a friend of hers. All I have of my own gear with me for AS is Gillette Series Gel, AV Classic, and Lucky Tiger disappearing AS cream. What is your advice here?

Try a cool water rinse followed by aloe gel if you have some around.
My uncle told me many years ago about using a home remedy of two strawbwerries mashed up with a teaspoon of sour cream. Put it on for 10 minutes, then rinse off. I asked him if he was joking, but he said he was serious. He was a smart man and not a flake, but I never tried it.

Try and find a Dollar Store, Pharmacy or Wally World and pick up some WH. The other thing you could do is try and carefully "ransack" the house and hope to find some WH.

Tutti Frutti, Cheers.

I ran into the same situation but had some Solarcaine hanging around. Tried it and it worked great. A little tacky, but fixed me right up.

If you did not experience razor burn with the VDH, I'd suggest switching back to that. In the meantime, shave every other day. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice and help. I did not shave today and all I found around here is alcohol....rubbing alcohol that is. LOL My face is feeling fine today but I still may not shave for another few days just to be safe, it is not worth the pain for a shave. :)

When I have razor burn, and it's really bothering me... I just run an ice cube or two over my face. May not fix anything, but certainly feels good.

The best way has already been mentioned, don't shave for a couple of three days. Let your neck heal naturally.

If you are going to be going out for the witch hazel, wherever you go, also look for any balm. The store brand will do, this will help sooth and moisturize that shaved area. :thumbup1:

When you start shaving again be aware of pressure in those tough area's. You may feel that you're not using any pressure at all, but the burn could be a sign that you're still using too much. Just keep the razor moving and only use the weight of the razor as your pressure.

Try an OTC cortizone cream--though I don't know if relying on it daily is good for the long haul. I found another product that seems pretty good--very good actually--I use it only on my neck daily...it's called The Cool Fix.

i second the motion for cortisone cream, actually hydrocortisone 1% cream, mixed with plain aloe vera gel, and don't shave till the burn is healed.

B&C Skin Tight at the beaty supply store. It works if your not allergic to asprin. It works really good, Im using it now ater a very overzealous to many pass straight razor shave. Results are very fast.

I have found skipping a day of shaving does wonders. If that is not possible, witch hazel has been a close second to soothing the skin......

you might want to try some different blades or add some tea tree oil to your mix when you whip up your cream and also you can buy some secret shave oil at walmart. put that on your face first then your cream.
