Treating a new weave strop.

my Windrose cotton strop seemed very harsh the way it arrived. It was very stiff and I didn’t like the sound of it on the blade. I read that vinegar and bicarbonate of soda soften cotton so I soaked and washed the strop, before soaking it for an hour or so in vinegar and bicarbonate solution.

I use mine after shaving to clean the blade and it’s much softer and less harsh sounding now.

Ask me about shaving naked!
If you don’t mind it shortening up a little, throw it in a drum (not spindle) washer with a bit of fabric softener.

I was surprised not to find a thread discussing it on here so had a look on the Kanayama site. It said to soak them 3 times and beat with a mallet and stretch over a bottle inbetween lol. That made me think maybe the fibres req broken down a bit, but that was possibly for a different material, because It seems to be plenty soft.
