What's new

Traveling help please?

I'm relatively new to the world of "shaving". Right now I'm playing with straight razors. I'm still completing my shaves with the DE. I use a merkur. I have a few different soaps and creams, and like the proraso more than provence. I bought a Mitchell's wool fat, but I don't have something to carry it in or use it in so I've never used it.
I bought an Arko expecting because of the feedback on this forum to hate it, but find them actually using it most because I use it when I travel I travel frequently.
The only problem I have is if she leave it in the wrapper, it gets that red dye color which I find disturbing. If I take it out of the wrapper its slimy. Also I don't have a good way to carry it, so I have been transporting it in my shaving bag inside an empty toilet paper roll.
So I have two questions:
1. What to use to carry your Arko?
2. Do you recommend some other combination for travel?
Okay third question, how do you carry your razor (DE) and not dull the blade when you're traveling but not ready to dispose of the blade?

I use a mini altoids tin to store blades new or used when traveling. I use the red tin for used/useable blades, and the blue tin for unused/new blades. The tins are 69 cents or so, and come with free mints :)

I bought a plastic tube at West Coast Shaving. The Arko stick fit in perfectly.

I bought a leather travel case at West Coast Shaving. It is B&B branded and it works great.

I am on the road almost every week.

I don't travel that often, but my set up is the same. The WCS tube is great.

For my razor, I use an old eyeglass hard case. Fits all parts of my 3 piece assembled or not. You can add foam if needed for proper fit.
Travel razor cases on amazon for less than 15 USD.

I use a leather razor case for travel as it protects the blade edge. I tend to use cream from a tube when travelling as they are not too bulky in that form.

Like some of the others, I use an Altoids tin with fitted foam inserts to carry my 3 piece razor and blades. I use 60 dram containers from the pharmacy to carry my brush and shaving stick. I was given them by the pharmacist when I asked to purchase some. If you get some, be sure to drill some holes in the containers so they can air out and dry.

Do you recommend some other combination for travel?
Different people use all sort for combinations for travel. I use the same stuff I use at home. I recommend experimenting and finding what works for you. You can also refer to prior discussions on travel kits as they're a very common topic around here and may give you additional ideas.
