Travel Tips

I have recently changed positions in my company and am traveling a lot.

When traveling with a brush, I always hated to put a damp brush in my shave kit and have recently started blow drying it before I store it away. So far it seems to be working like a champ.

Any other suggestions from our road warriors?

I've never had a problem with my travel brush, even when put away slightly damp.
I travel a lot, and even when traveling from Overseas to the US involving 24 hours travel, when I arrive at the next destination, I just take it out and let it air out and dry.
It works for me.

I would be a bit cautious about using the hair dryer. My concerns would be causing heat damage to the hair and drying the adhesive in the knot area. Excessive heat could also do damage to the handle. When I traveled a lot, I would use a large pill bottle in which I would drill holes for ventilation. I would try to dry the brush the best I could on a towel prior to inserting it into the bottle. If it was an extended stay, I would leave it out to dry. Having said that, there were many trips that I just tossed it in my dopp kit after shaking and towel drying.

Regards,

Doug

Don't travel much, but when I do I use the pill bottle with the holes in the top method - for the most part. On our last trip - by car- I did use the motels' blowdryers on a low setting a little bit after having squeezed the knot and wiped it on a towel. Then I made sure that the pill bottle with brush was exposed to the air in the car instead of sealed in my dop kit. On trips by plane it goes in checked baggage until arriving home, which is never over about twelve hours. No problems yet.

Look into the 'turnback' brushes ... they screw into a hollow reversible handle for perfect storage, and the 'other' end of the handle is open for great ventilation.

If you can have two brushes to alternate, that helps them dry off in between usages. Always keep your brush(es) out in the open for the duration of your hotel stay so they can get the maximum drying time.

If posible, also look into shaving the night before you pack up and leave, so the brush has time to dry out overnight. If your 5 o'clock shadow is really a 2:30 eclipse, that might not work, though.

I'd stick with badger for travel. That way, moisture is mostly on the hairs, as opposed to boar, where moisture can actually get soaked into the hair. And if you're only going to be gone for a week or less--be sensible about what size brush you need to be hauling around. You're coming back home. Leave Big Flopper there to greet you when you get back.
