Travel Tips

Hello, All. Long time listener, first time caller. :001_smile

I've done some searching but thought I'd post my question. I was wondering if there are any good tips on traveling with my shave set. As I will be traveling for long periods of time, I am not looking for a travel brush, razor, or cream, but will be traveling with my regular shave set save for the stand.

Any tips on how to properly pack the brush without crushing it?
Are there any good, cheap, and light stands for my brush and razor I can travel with? Perhaps something that folds?
Any other tips?

Thanks!

  • An orange pill bottle with holes drilled in the cap will do nicely for most brushes, assuming they'll fit inside.
  • I've never seen a folding stand, but if we're being honest you don't "need" a stand... the brush will dry fine standing on it's base if you squeeze/shake/brush it dry after use, same goes for the razor, except without the squeezing and brushing.
  • I'd also mention... DO NOT bring blades in your carryon baggage. :001_rolle

I recently purchased a brush off mdunn here on the forums, and he shipped it hiding inside a toilet roll (the cardboard cylinder you have left when all the toilet paper is gone).

Check the wiki page on air travel for additional hints.

My travel brush came with a case, and B&Ber drandall did a huge group buy of very nice, sturdy tubes that are ideal for shaving brush storage and travel. It might be time to do another group buy of these, but I don't know about his willingness to do it again!

Soapbox, can I take razor blades when I fly?

What do you guys do for blades? I mean, do you just use a mach 3 for a certain period of time, or do you hope a local store will have cheapie blades for sale for a DE, since you naturally can't have a straight (assuming you do carry-on)

... or do you grow a beard :001_cool:

Since I always try to carry on, I have done both-However, lately running around at my destination looking for DE blades has become kind of a pain, so I generally just travel with a Mach 3 and suck it up while I am on the road :thumbdown

A fair compromise (though I'd take a Sensor Excel). Now that checking a bag costs $15 to $25 each way, if blades are the only reason you check a bag...that's expensive shaving! Also note that if you know where you'll be staying, you can mail a couple of blades to your destination. That's only $0.44 for a first-class stamp.
