travel shave kits

Ok, since the travel theme has been going, here's a question for you guys:

what do you guys pack in your shave kits for the road?

obviously all your shave gear, but it doesn't just have to be strictly shave related, just anything you'd put in your personal dopp kit for the road.

Here's mine:

I got a set of Magellan Travel Bottles into which I decant my favourite products at the time. It cuttently has:

Larger Pot - Trumper's Rose Shaving Cream
Smaller Pot - Some Dax Blue
Flip top bottle - Trumper's Limes Shower Gel
Flip top bottle - Head & Shoulders Lemon Shampoo
Green top bottle - Listerine
Red top bottle - Trumper's Limes Skin Food

I also carry:
Merkur Futur.
Dovo Travel Brush
Small sewing kit
Small Manicure set
Kent toothbrush
Tube of Euthymol Toothpaste
50ml Blenheim Bouquet EDT

This all gets stowed in a Daines & Hathaway Roll Up Wet Pack

Good grief that's a lot of stuff to travel with. Out of curiosity have you been able to take that kit as a carry-on when flying?

I can if i leave the razor blades out. I usually take Bic metals instead but I've just acquired a Merkur Trac2 razor so I can say godbye to bic metals. I vaguely remember getting pretty good shaves off the original Gillette one. It I know I can get razor blades at the destination I buy them on arrival.

It sounds a lot but it doesn't take up much space:

So, I am getting ready to go on the road for a little more than a month (I leave early next week - will experience serious B&B withdrawl by mid-week) and I plan on bringing the following:

- "Sample"* of Taylors Rose
- "Sample"* of Taylors Lavender
- "Sample"* of Taylors Lemon & Lime
- "Sample"* of Taylors Avocado
- one more sample - possibly T&H Limes
- Proraso Green (tube)
- Thayers Lemon in 120mL atomizer**
- Thayers Rose or Medicated in 120mL atomizer (undecided)**
- AOS Alum bluck**
- Baxters ASB
- T&H Ultimate Comfort Balm
- Proraso "milky" ASB
- Proraso Splash
- J//A/S/O/N Witchvera decanted into a 50mL bottle (should double as an after-sunburn remedy if necessary)
- Baxters face scrub
- Merkur progress
- bunch O' blades
- brush - will take my full-sized brush if I have space, if not I'll take my C&E travel brush (but I don't like the idea of using a small brush for every shave for more than a month)
- Neutrogena moisturizer
- Trimmer/clippers to trim my goatee
- Small Corningware stoneware bowl

I think that the above should be all (at least most) of the shave gear I bring. Will also need to bring:

- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- C&E Manicure set
- Antiperspirant (+ a spare just in case I misplace one - I've done this before)
- Hair "goop"
- Hair brush & comb
- Neutrogena Shampoo & Conditioner
- Soaps (KMF Olive Oil and Burt's Bees Peppermint Shower)**

I wonder what else I need to bring?

* Note that "Samples" are in 60mL Nalgene containers
** Edit: added these items after original posting.

Now that's a LOT of stuff!

yeah... it is... but I'll have 5 or 6 weeks where I can use only what I have with me... and I want to have some selection/choice while I'm on the road.

Also, I've forgotten a few things and will edit to add them.

This is an interesting topic... The last time I traveled I packed a sample size of T&H Ultimate Comfort shave and balm. The kicker was not looking before I packed so I got one shave out of it. I hit the small downtown desperately looking for something and suffered with some Herban Cowboy soap I found at the granola store. Boy does that soap stink (not smell but shave-wise). They had all the Tom's of Maine but not the shave - bummer. This last trip convinced my I need a better solution for the brush too - usually my Vulfix 2234 in the box my Simpson came in. I will pick up a perscription bottle to see if that works or otherwise I might order an inexpensive travel brush like that Saville Row next time I place an order with Charles at QED.

sample vial- Taylor's Avocado
sample vial- Proraso Green
1-QED shave stick

1 box of Derby Blades

Brush:
Savile Row Travel Brush

Razor:
Merkur Long Handle

Hygiene:
1 squeeze bottle of Yardley's English Lavender body wash
Travel squeeze bottle of shampoo & conditioner
Travel squeeze bottle of Nancy Boy Facewash
1 sample atomizer of spray hair gel

Cologne:
Sample vials of whatever I can get my hands on.

Accessories:
4 packets of baking soda (For incredibly hard water)
1 mini-bottle with atomizer of isopropyl alcohol
1 Pinaud Nick relief
1 mini tube of toothpaste
1 Barber's Comb
1 toothbrush
2 mini bottles of Scope
1 manicure set
1 Ziploc tub with lid as a lathering bowl (& extra storage)
1 70-piece First Aid Kit (just packed in luggage, not shave kit)
1 sample vial of anti-biotic ointment

**as an interesting side note, I find it amazing how many folks don't travel with a first-aid kit. Every home should have one and you certainly should be packing one with you to travel. Just good heads-up preparation.

I have a ~2700km (~1700mile) drive (each way) to go to Newfoundland to visit my family and prepare for and take part in my upcoming wedding (on the 19th of August). Good reason for a long drive and long trip?:001_smile

You are so right on this. I make sure that there is a first aid kit in the car at all times (and it is easy to access - not in the bottom of the trunk) when I am drivign (as I will be for the upcoming trip).

Justin, I payed full price for the C&E kit and can't really say enough good things about it. At the current sale price it is a steal. The sateen finish is attractive and durable. The interior is a very fetching flannel with a waterproof plastic tailored over it. Really quite nice.

It is deceptively roomy with the two compartment design. I use the 2oz. sqeeze bottles from QED and 1oz. Nalgene containers for cream samples. I can fit toothbrush and toothpaste, small 1.7oz. jar of Ameican Crew pomade, tweezers, two small pill bottles, an alarm clock, a roll of anacids, antiperspirant (full size) antibiotic cream, hydrocortizone cream (combined they are superb on razor burn) and a loofah in the bottom compartment. The last time I traveled I fit the following in the top compartment: Gillette DE; M3; shavemac 22579 in 4" tube (Ems); 2oz. squeeze bottles of Cetaphil soap and lotion, aloe, Thayers Rose WH and Thayers Lavender WH; 1oz. jars of GFT Rose, Taylor Lavender, and C&E almond. I could have probably got one more jar or squeeze bottle in there. My point is I had everything I needed for at leats a month with plenty of variety.

Anyway, it really is a great kit,
Cheers,
Jeff
