Travel Ozuku

After the success of the travel Nagura project - I decided to rethink the decision to use a pelican case for the Ozuku.
The black rectangle is a hunk or 1" thick rubber to put the stone on when honing. I may cut a larger piece so it fills up the space better. The black strip by the Ozuku is a rubber wedge to keep the stone from sliding around. The box is pine with dovetailed corners, and it's lined with 1/8" silicone.

TY - its a realy nice Ozuku - good balance of hardness and speed.

It's an interesting stone in that the slurry is brown... very brown. Freaks me out everytime I slurry on it with a Nagura. Thought I stained a Botan the first time I used it, came up looking like I dunked the bottom of it in a Latte or something.

Do you check that beauty in at the airport? I would bet it doesn't. I would hate for it to go "missing" ;).

Does the slurry smell of earth? Every time I lap, and sometimes when I slurry, the smell of earth/dirt wafts up. I wonder if any other natural stones do the same? I know my coticule doesn't.

Thuringians also have an earthy smell.

Certain coticules have a very earthy smell. Notably, the several La Grise coticules that I've handled smell earthy when wet.

Possibly - I could probably use that same box for just that purpose if I wanted to.
I usually take two razors on a trip; barring an accident that's good enough for 2+ weeks though.
This travel set up I put together is more for when/if I decide to hone a razor I pick up when traveling.
